An unintended treasure

Weathered by lifetimes
long ago stripped of retro sheen
that character though...
never quite goes out of style
60's burnt-sienna swagger
Well loved, used and so worn in.

Memories fleck and mark cider stains
chipped fingerprints
deep milky welts-
absent minded watermarks
forge sigil shadows upon real wood

The type of craftsmanship and function
where old souls remind,
"They don't build them like that anymore"
Passed generation to generation,
blood to blood

Steeped in family tradition
with time gone by
was christened "the orange chest"
an unintended guardian—
keeper of sacred treasure, faith
me and all my secrets.
Over the years,
morphing from simple furniture
to adored fixture.

Nowhere near an antique prize
not worth anything
to anyone else
other than those
original architects of 'lore'
whose genuine love
saw something special

in the unlikeliest of places

Author's Note
I'm the third generation to painstaking patch and somewhat fix "the orange chest" (as it was christened years ago) making it fully functional and usable. It's really nothing special, except to those of us who grew up revering it's family lore. (and it's space saving functionality! ..haha) Tradition, that I didn't fully appreciate until I was older. I cannot help but love it's timeless design and of course the quirky family history.
