I notice
your gaze
fall upon
lettered scars
as you draw nearer
praying silently
PLEASE!

yanking me out of
solidarity
WHOA!
cracking open
worn spine
OW!
thumbing over
tender edges
FUCK!
violating words
with greedy eyes
NO!
upside down
greasy hands
stroking my back
STOP!
ripping off the
very wings
exposing bare covers
I BEG YOU!
dumping me
naked
on the floor
DON’T LEAVE ME!

“Not my type.”
I hear as you walk away

at the library
unkept
returned
and used
at some point
