Inhale...Exhale...

Breathing
The natural thing we do
Inhale
Exhale

It seems simple enough
We don’t even think about it
Instinctively it’s just done

It all goes wrong
When that wild beauty
Comes into view

Then all memory
Of how to breathe
Is totally gone

Who I am who I was
Slips away
Like the breath in my lungs

Need that composure
To start breathing again
It’s like my life stands still

Breathe
I need to breathe
Let me breathe

So I can gather enough
Air inside me
To say a word

Unrequited  Quiet

Your forgiveness is now what I pray,
For in telling You to take it slow
I may have led You on to pine away,
Hoping for the day I would know
What You’re heart tells You today.

But my heart tells me a different thing
And my dreams dream not of You.
No matter how long the bell rings
No knockout will follow-through.

I’m going now to focus on my craft
And learn more from the Trees;
In empathic solitude I’ll laugh
Communing with zen mysteries.

In closing,
I’d still love to be Your friend
And grow and build this bond
But if it’s too much to wend
And interact perhaps we should
Move along.

The Billboard

my love pasted itself to an old billboard,
a guardian of the dark, deserted backroad
in the land of things old and forgotten;
you passed it by on your way
to somewhere else,
believing my offering was meant
for another Then and some other Them

once so vibrant and relevant,
my edges now split and curl inward,
ink-streaked by sad-sky sobbing
and beaten to muted gray
in the rage of cold-shoulder winds;
I stand precariously on worm-eaten legs
as solid as they’ll ever be again

all the fine details overlooked,
overwhelmed by too many
brittle layers with peeling edges
hinting at brighter origins,
since faded by elemental fury;
it was more than you could take in
as you rushed hastily past,
in search of an easier read

set you free (come back to me)

you must know your silence hurts
just as i know it’s what we need
i cannot reasonably expect you to wait
for all three of me to be in sync
and while i get my shit together
i will hope that i impress you for a change

you must know i was thinking of you
every time i fucked someone else
you must know not one can stand next to you
i was afraid of my own jealousy
and not afraid enough of yours
this may make you laugh: at times
it wasn’t me

i did wrong, as i do, as we do
i will not ask you to be sorry for me

when you asked me
in the kebab shop
if i would be angry
if you dated someone
else

you must have known my no was not simple
that it was the reason i walked out
and all night my eyes flooded quietly
yet in the morning i stayed a while
and when you claimed to have no memory
i knew it was to save my (ruined) pride

do you think you have cut me loose
i don’t think you can do it
i have tied myself too tightly
you must know that wherever i go
i will be writing to you
words you may never see

you must know that this is all for you.
i strive to make you know my worth
i undertake the feats of Hercules
to bring you orange juice and vodka
and i vow to be stronger next time

until you can safely choose me

Unrequited

it’s a terrible thing
to wake up as a child
and feel the genetic burden
of love
when your parents
have cast off their own

ii

there is no
people

there's only the
i

sometimes it is mistaken
for a collective
when
in company

perhaps
the Roman numeral
representing the two
the only perfect rendering
both literally
and figuratively

there is no
people

there's planets though
the heavenly bodies

orbits
sadly
have locked them in

satellites
can only dream
and run around
day and night

there is no people

                                     .

hand of glass

From the pitch of dark,
these corners glow in earnest
'Tis this one purest object of desired
one and of thine own feathered touch
with hand of glass,
and fairest of all the fragile broken pieces;
listen to thy sweetest sounds
quietly—
Dare to listen

as our,
or maybe my,
favorite'd did travel
atop each blinding jagged streak,
higher with each plea
of hushed benevolence
in all it's darkness curving
To lay claim and pine...
O' to beg for such it is
I will
time,
and time,
and time again
with my smug like clever
or the yawn of battered hearted ease
Still, I listen for such a telltale find
my all and everything

and yet ...
from the pitch dark
these corners still glow in earnest

a man in love

he waits for her
his princess
the woman of
his wildest dreams
yes, his kind
of woman
in due time
she will saunter by

he longs to
catch her eye
for in her eyes
he sees something
of beauty
something that
makes his heart
pound in his chest
oh how he yearns
to touch her

he wants to gaze
at her long legs
and hear her high heels
clicking on the pavement
knowing he is a commoner
among men he holds back
thinking she will
break his heart
if she passes by
without a word

then she comes round
the corner of the
station looking like
a goddess to him
the woman he has
dreamed of holding
in his arms
the one he longs for
late at night
his eyes wide awake

he has never
seen her looking
so absolutely stunning
he had the words
he would say
to her rehearsed
when he saw her today

yet now all
he could do was
stand and stare
at her dumb-struck
his soul on fire
as he watched
her wink at him
and climb aboard
the bus that
goes down town

crazy love

this feels awful
i'm not sure loving you
is worth the pain
you can either make
or break my day
by your attention
or lack of it

you are quickly
becoming something
close to an obsession
i like everything there
is about you
your eyes say it all
you move about zombie-like
my enchanted master

deep down i know
you lack the courage to
tell it like it is
so instead you stare
sometimes winking
at your love slave
willing to risk nothing

you can keep your
hungry eyes and empty arms
your well-kept secrets
i'll keep my fantasies
and shattered dreams
then crawl back into my shell
and silently mourn for
the love which is just
out of my reach
