course correcting a soul
vibrant colors
swirl into breathless whimsy
lush verdurous greens
moist from a kiss of rain,
grow ground up in a surround
aim willful penetration
into muggy tear kissed skies
jasmine vines
bend, sway and curl climb up
massive tree trunks
gnarling themselves
through fenced shrubbery
to peek fanciful fare
o' harvest my haggard heart!
lie it sweetly pon grassy hope
humming enticements
opening ethereal realms
listening
growing
awakening steadfast, strong
and so willingly tangled
within soft whispers,
and secret utterances
where ample caresses blow
in a mystical language
of lost childhood magic
zephyr'd hints creep
winding their way
conduct dew covered greenery
spotted in lavender and rosemary
over fae who dance and play
proof certain deities
beckon their brilliance
from a liminal teetering
spanish moss
creeps crooked fingers
coats its cover over most things
miraculous, how it languidly lingers
hanging warped,
those twisted tendrils
heavy, in a picturesque bow
deepening hot humid air
is what remains
from an afternoon's reprieve of breezes
slick and heavy-damp
swelters my daily sauna
soothingly, like a hot tonic balm
the sun warms
life itself
a soul is renewed
in perfect
understanding
of all
that
really
matters.

a walk through my own neighborhood, taking in the natural beauty, even though it feels like it's 1000° outside (actually per my phone it was 107°)
This version was inspired by an older poem based on this same walk, which I still greatly enjoy.
Pic: One I took of a favorite house I pass almost daily. I'm a creature of habit and always look inside to say hello to the little bichon mix who's usually bark-wagging at the door...

Yeah... You'd melt into the pavement for sure!!! I go early morning or as the sun sets because any other time during the summer is too too hot... Fall and winter are the best...
Thank you for your generosity, Colin.. and for finding something within my work that you enjoy. It means a lot to me that you visit and leave your feedback.

Even though it might sound silly, there's a big piece of me that resides in this poem which was hard to let out onto the page and into public view... me, dealing with my heavy personal stuff and finding refuge within this hour of the day, often is the only thing that keeps me sane.
It's a nice place to visit, I wouldn't suggest living here. As soon as I can, this state will be in my rearview.... lol.
I've been lax in my reading and commenting, so I appreciate you taking the time with me.
It means the world.
Thank you for being you.

Yeah, I go by the 'feels like' so it was an actual temp of 94° but it felt like 107° which if that's what it feels like than that's my reality!! Ugggh... so freaking hot.
I like to sweat it all out though, I can't lie there... but the humidity is where FL keeps you all fucked up. It's dangerous and just plain bullshit.... haha! One day I'll be a snow bird and be up north for the summer and it'll be glorious!!
I sometimes like to see how far I can stretch my language skills without it sounding too much like a gammar lesson, eh... I mean I get that it's probably not a poem for everyone but it means a fuck ton to me because it's a habit I created to deal with life pressures that only seem to continue to squeeze me harder and harder. It's difficult to not beat myself up at times, so walking this route, getting exercise(and out of my head) along with writing are where I can get away and not feel guilty for doing so...
Thank you for being here and for feeling my weirdo X factor. It really made a difference for me today, C.
Thank you thank you.

I am far from having such vocabulary in my head. I am sooooooooo jealous. Brilliant description, PS yes, heat is killer but amazingly, as some permafrost disappears it allows for new life to grow. Kisses, Robert.

Explanatory like a Norman Rockwell painting. A slice of life.
Regarding the heat, a "quenching" in the pool may be in order followed by sipping sweet tea or lemonade from an ice filled pitcher.

The pool is like bath water....
Yes, iced tea is a total favorite... along with coconut water or watermelon water... ICE! and lots of it. That's the key.
Thank you for being so beautifully aware of my writing. This one is special to me for several deep meaning reasons, so your kind feedback makes me feel like I've penned something of worth.... thanks for that, it's priceless.

Synchronicity;
I've been working my way through an anthology of garden poems, appropriately titled..."GARDEN POEMS"...(Everyman's Library Pocket Poets: ISBN 978-0-679-44726-9) and after reading 'COURSE CORRECTING a SOUL" I think that they should have included one more poem, obviously yours, whose overall botanical zeitgeist makes it a contender.
Then I thought, after reading the comments, that there's really no reason one can't re-edit any poem for whatever purpose, and that the editing process for writers might best be compared to the tailoring of fine garments, so that the wearer may more befittingly attend a wider range of events.
Truly a wild horticultural romp!

Hey there, MS.
I simply adore your thoughts on 'tailoring' a poem like a fine garment. That's it exactly, in my opinion. It's like taking material from a vintage piece of clothing and using that fabric to create a new spectacularly different beauty all together. They just both happen to come from the same design house... hahaha...
Your fine and truly consequential feedback about my writing leaves me breathless, MS. Thank you so much for being so kind and generous. I will definitely be checking out that anthology of garden poems, much obliged for the recommendation!
I adore you being here for my little journey.... it means more than you know to have you visit.
Much love,

Re. course correcting a soul
Dear BV,
I’d walk a thousand miles in blistering heat for this tableau as well.
There was such a lovely reflection throughout the write that soothed the soul and purged the ick as balance was restored. I also enjoyed the traditional language of the apostrophe’d words. Leant itself to a great rhythm as I read it. Over and over. I wish you cooler weather very soon. Beautiful piece. H🌷

Awww... We'd always have the pool to dive into, even if it is like bath water!!!... hahaha...
There's nothing that I love more than knowing that I could help, even if just the tiniest bit, to soothe and purge any ickiness... What a compliment, indeed!
Thank you for being so wonderfully generous, dear lady. You always make such a difference with your visits, please know that.
Gladly and heartily accepting your wishes of cooler weather soon!!
Hope you enjoyed your time away,

You're a beautiful soul, my dear lady. I'd absolutely share a quality stroll with you... any day! You'd love the little nuances along the way; nothing overwhelming just a bit quirky and sometimes, when you least expect it, really pretty, too.

Thank you for coming along with me today.... what a joy.

Yes, I concur... to recharge and realign is imperative, I believe. If you're able to, incorporating nature into a daily activity really adds something powerful to expanding a psyche, lessening the throes of anxiety and depression and centering a mindset.
I appreciate you feeling something similar in that understanding. Thank you so much for sharing those thoughts.... really.

In some cold places they artificially create the heat and humidity for health.
Feeling zapped by the heat of this poem.

Hope you are feeling well undertone heat.
I’m beginning to get the idea that you can rip a telephone book, turn it into a poem and end up with a marvellous read.
And I love the artwork too.

What a truly fine person you are.
Keer it up!

You're a lovely sight for sore eyes, my lovely friend. A gazillion thank you's for stopping by now and previously to read my little attempt at taking my cleansing ritual and trying to evoke that through poetry. It makes me so very happy to read your thoughtful comments and I'm immeasurably grateful that you've enjoyed it so much to return to say so, too. There's so much awful shit that can often feel like an albatross around one's neck, that 'lightening one's load' is sometimes difficult to achieve in a healthy and productive way.... this mostly works for me and I greatly appreciate you seeing value and worth the within these words.
Again, huge thanks for being the amazing soul you are.
Much love and warmest regards,

What's really cool about this is that even though it's sweltering hot late at night, you're able to gather these thoughts and be inspired by the night. 107 is my breaking point where I live but you managed to bring about a beautiful reflective piece.

It's 9:30pm right now and the heavier rain is going to start any minute now. I'm two hours north of LA so we weren't going to see much of that wind (then again it's a tropical storm), but we're expecting flooding. So it'll be a late night just make sure we're in the clear. We also had an earthquake earlier in the afternoon so it's a double whammy. But I don't think that compares to the cat 3 or 4 hurricane winds y'all experience on the east coast.

Either way, it's not a usual occurrence there, so I definitely understand the extra caution. Omg, when my notifications also came across in regards to the earthquake, I was like WTF is going on in California!?!? Sheesh! I mean one natural disaster at a time please!?!?... I know, funny, not funny... lol.
Tropical storms aren't to be trifled with either. I have gone through so many, but I never take my eye off the ball, because you never know. It seems storms on the west coast are keeping in line with the East coast with the worst coming through in the middle of the night, which is always the case here, too. Makes for a sleepless night, I know. Weird how that almost always is the case... Uggh.
Thanks for the update... my thoughts are with you and yours.
