Good luck in the comp, though I don't think you'll need it. Excellent poem.

I never really win comps (maybe fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for this one) and mostly use them to try and write stuff I normally wouldn't or thought I couldn't ... Kinda push myself out of my comfort zone a bit. So it's nice to know you believe in this one...It's very much appreciated.

With age comes the depth of wisdom, I believe... There's such rich, deep value in understanding and evaluating that actions have particular consequences but there's also real relevancy in reminding yourself to strive for betterment while not settling in being something you're not. Breaking a cycle of abuse and pain, to ensure it ends with... me.

A iridescent reawaking and soul searching, at times needing a compass to reach that gleaming of who you really are. One has to believe in who they are. Faith in the reality that no one is your superior. Its that simple, if you listen to silence as you meditate.

You say so much and make an absolutely stellar point that I ardently hope anyone reading attempts to seriously adopt as practice in their own lives, if only for a few moments a day. Legitimately spending time being mindful, alone with some deep breathing... meditating. Try it, I promise you won't be sorry. There's all kinds of beginner tutorials on line... Dare I say, it's almost as good as coffee... almost ;)

Righteous. This piece immediately brought to mind people I’ve known so horribly affected by the negatives others placed on them and how they internalized it. The idea of shedding those conventions and realizing their potential came very late, if at all. This poem was like a balloon being freed and floating away. I loved this. I bet it was hard for your friends to shed that self image, it sadly becomes ingrained... I get it!! It's like rewiring your thinking, essentially....and yes, brutally hard to change.

That's a lot of wonderfulness in just a few words. The 'harsh light of hindsight' seems to provide an endless reservoir of jigsaw pieces of our traumatised lives, and then piece by piece over many years we fit them together into a truer picture of our otherwise buried and hidden true selves -- a picture that finally resonates deeply at the soul level.  
From my experience, although this process is emotionally painful, sometimes exhausting and seemingly never-ending, my belief is that it also contributes to better physical health. After all, if mind-body-spirit is "one thing", it seems a reasonable conclusion. All the best, Josh.

Finding one's inner truth is not only a process that's difficult, wrought with pain and an uncomfort that often accompanies growth, it's also character shaping; playing a big part in defining the type of person you choose to be or become and how you decide to live and love. It's introspection not for the faint of heart!!... lol..

I keep reminding myself that an "assignment to the boot-camp" (otherwise known as 'an incarnation on Planet Earth') involves a process of trial & error -- which means lots of trials and lots of errors are a normal and expected part of the learning pedagogy. But as you say, it's up to us as to how we deal with the uncomfortableness of the growth process. I sense I'm always thrown back to 'beginner's mind'  :)

A wise person...some call him The Buddha...points directly at the suffering that comes with haunting the past...but hindsight can be valuable indeed.

Sometimes that suffering leads to a greater understanding that only becomes crystal clear after the initial pain has had time to lessen.... I deeply appreciate your wise feedback and feel the bit of warning therein. I tend to agree with you, there... for the most part.

It’s a reminder if what we’re constantly told by others, by social norms compared to the innocence that used to be and is no more.

Powerful write with so few words

Figuring out how to instill and maintain positive self love to reflect outwardly in a healthy manner has been a lifelong process... Yes, an innocence that should have matured without harm or foul, but was sadly bruised and battered into something that needed recovery from. (which I'm sure for a lot of us wasn't the case) However, in the end, it builds strength and resolve.... after a bit of trial and error, that is... lol.

Thank you for understanding the poignance behind the 17 syllables, Walter.... it means a lot to me.
