Shed you now the shackles and chain
Traverse without fear the freedom land
in both this reality and nether-world terrain
cut the cords, unleash the poets mind...

Just a few more days to go: Inviting all DUP friends and families to enter this competition.

chains
fear, its fight or flight
running
innocent man chased
crimes
accused but innocent
wanted
to be dragged back
freedom
a dream to live
to be embraced
and loved
stolen
taken from the innocent
given
to those guilty
freedom a price
payed by the guilty
and now by the innocent

Iron Wings

They surrounded him one night,
For the faith that he had shown,
Bound his hands in shackles,
For the God that he had known

They dragged him through the streets,
Where he begged and cried,
Then locked him behind bars,
Where he was sure that he would die

The darkness of the cell grew thick,
A tempest of great doubt and fear,
And he let the despair blind him to the truth,
That his Master was still near

The man cried out for rescue,
Weeping with fear to his Lord,
But his Lord softly hushed him,
“Never fear, my son, this darkness is your sword.”

You see what they did not realize,
The follower did not either,
Was that this jail was a refinery,
That made one stronger the believer

Through the dark, the cold and hunger,
God began to show him many things,
That these shackles were not bindings,
But beautifully hidden wings

This darkness and this cruelty,
Where not the beginning of his fall,
But the crooked road to his throne -
His Master's voice, a subtle freedom call

Freedom Calls,
but will you answer?
There is no cure,
for the cancer,
that causes you to hide,
and make you unwilling to confide,
in anybody or anything,
for you have been crushed,
but we must sing,
together now through thick and thin,
for freedom calls,
calls from within.

Sitting here bound by walls,
Bound by thought- mind- body.
Everything makes a prison,
A prisoner out of me.
Words, faces, expressions-
Made to contain and tame.
But on the page,
When my hand moves accordingly-
No- in rhythm to only me.
With no one to say,
It's this way or that,
Go there or here.
Do that do this.
This hand is magic,
And the colors it binds-
Softly coaxing the lead to speak,
All the things true to heart.
Unlocked from logic,
Unwound from the ground,
Yet all above and below,
Exists white skies.
On which I can draw my freedom.
My colors and soul-
As it floats into the page,
Becoming a Freedom in it's own right.

Freedom calls!

For mothers who feed babies tainted water
Knowing it will make them sick
But they will die without it
Freedom calls, but it's so faint
The direction is lost
So it fades into bright sunlight
With the cacophany of wailing children
Dying into the desert plain

For fathers who fight wars they don't understand
Hiding in trenches under moonlight
Imagining their babies growing up
Freedom calls them
But it's lost in the staccato sounds of gunshot
Screaming soon-dead bleeding into the night

Freedom calls children who starve for life
for food, for love, for the luxury of thought
rather than the pressure of survival
Freedom calls for them,
But they can't hear it
Over the growling of their stomachs
While their throats close in tears
That never make it on the streets.

Freedom calls a world
Drowning in plight
Starving for food
For peace, for love
Overrun in greed

My hope is that one day we realize
Until war, poverty, and hunger are eliminated
Until we are free of the plight of greed
None of us will truly ever be free.

your freedom
will begin
when the hand
of common sense
holds the spark
of reason

Freedom calls me everyday,
Some I notice, some I ignore,
We are now in a month past may,
Blest be all that died in may.

Freedom calls! Freedom calls!
The word deceives,
It comes with a price,
What is the price?
Curious voices ask.

What I can't answer,
I would gladly show.

Go on, look at the birds above,
Contracting and expanding their wings in joy,
Twisting and diving in joyous flight.

Now go look at a bird in a metal cage,
Its wings clipped and bonded with pins,
What do you see written on its face?
"Freedom calls!" "Freedom calls!"

    ::Chronic Freedom::

Mounting tonnes of unknown heaviness
to bosom bursting,
Screeching shrills of deafening silence
to bloodied earbuds,
Infinite piercing solitude arrows clogging
bodily skinnish pores,
Roughened leathery blanketed eyelids
painstakingly cemented,
Flaring bubbles of shooting out fire sparks
held in solar twin balls,
Deepening darkness digging out smile-masked
fathomless agonies,
Seasoned rosewood cot holding this dreadful body
seems like erupting,
Un-breaking slots of space and time eternal
stands still puzzling,
Distant innocent cries breaks all in a moment,
tears consumed in temperance,
Ephemeral cells respiring choked daily,
paving soul’s freeing in chronic ascendence...

Congratulations to all the winners! I had a bit of a problem choosing one as all of the entries are very good. Kriticool, I chose you as the trophy winner as your poem is a shade constricted, as if you are still in this little box, trying to get free. It grabbed me and made me feel that tinge of sympathy for you, or the protagonist of that poem. Lee, your poem as usual is brilliant, and I simply loved it: Beautiful Accident, such passion "Until we are free of the plight of greed, None of us will truly ever be free" I loved it. You are so good with your words. Be that as it may, congratulations once again: everybody, thank you. Be with me in my next competition!

.
Without doubt, this award thing is real nice.
Considering the other entrants in this thread & their drops, particularly the other awardees (Lee & beautiful_accident) & their drops...and the considered opinion of the OP host... Again, I'd have to say this "Win" is real nice!

Thanks Grace. Something like this brightens up the day.
We really appreciate it.

Hey Ms. Grace. I didn't know anything about your competition or I would have sumitted an entry, but it was good to read them all, they were very good. Next time. Congrats to you too, Ms. Grace.
