Dancing Maidens of the Green
- Dancing Maidens of the Green -
Upon the summer's caressing heat, I felt the warmth upon my body,
Cooled somewhat by the soft breeze that flitted through the treetops.
From the tower where I looked out across the waters in the distance,
I allowed myself to wonder, to ponder, to lose myself so beautifully.
Entranced as I glanced upon the grassy slope that did thus envelop...
My attention, for there did fair elfin maids circle around, in a dance.
Singing voices lilting across the distance, never far and just below...
Calling me to join them in...

her heart a glass of haunted roses - a bourrée
Her heart is a glass of haunted roses. Weatherworn Ellis Island faces rise like Lazarus from family memory books. Theirs is the immigrant waltz learned from grandparents who danced on the shores of America upon arrival.
In the society for the creative anachronism, the sweethearts are illuminated by the eternal flame of young love made light by the glow of fire dancers.
Rowena says, “I’m so glad you made it here my dear. Now let’s take a whirl around this place. They’re playing a galliard. That’s our...

The Return of The Daughter of Night
Not so long ago, with the moon shining bright,
I smiled and danced with the Daughter of Night.
And ever since then, my heart has been yearning,
Seeking the beautiful maiden’s returning.
On nights I will wander each alley and street,
And when the sun rises, I bow in defeat,
For although I’ve searched every corner and hall,
The Daughter of Night cannot be found at all.
For months I have searched, and still she eludes me.
I long for her dance, and hope she includes me.
I know that some people will think I’m bewitched, ...

I long for her dance, and hope she includes me.

Power, Pizzazz, and All That Jazz!
It’s the summer of 1937
Gertrude is only fourteen
She and her older sister sneak out of the house
And Gertrude’s eyes have that certain gleam
She’s mesmerized by the big city lights
It’s something they’ve never seen
They go into a club to see Benny Goodman
As the big jazz band plays Sing, Sing, Sing

Henry has just turned twenty-five
He and his friends go to see Cab Calloway
They dance having the time of their lives
Jumping and jiving celebrating his birthday
Drinks and...

I Wasn't Ready To Tell You
Nelly, I fell for you and I was waiting for the right time to tell you.
I was videoing the bride while she was putting on make-up.
You were lying back on the bed and leaning on your elbows.
And you were garbed in a white sleeveless dress.
I couldn’t help paying attention to you because of your beauty.
This was distracting me from my work, but I didn't mind it.
You were clutching a nosegay and you asked me to take your picture.
The men left the room when the bride was ready to get dressed.
As I was leaving the room, you said to me, “Ba-bye,...

Last Tango Before Katrina
Last Tango Before Katrina
The miles showed on his face in burnt etchings of New Orleans sun. He sat at the same table every day, sipping coffee and staring out the window at the Algiers street scene. He seemed to be lost in a universe Kate couldn’t fathom. His world was beyond her reach, cloaked in the darkness of his inward gaze. Something about his remoteness beckoned her. She longed to breach his inner kingdom. But how could she penetrate this elusive creature? He made her think of some mythical beast, like a unicorn, who could never be captured.

Charleston Night at the Coffee Shop
Charleston Night at the Coffee Shop
“What’s going on here?”
“The boss can’t afford a Christmas bonus so we took the matter into our own hands. This is Charleston night at the coffee shop. We dress like flappers and relive the roaring twenties. The customers tip us by throwing dollars. Pretty creative don’t you think?”
My eyes follow the girl with the magic belly button where she finds her calling as a flapper girl doing the Charleston surrounded by burlap sacks of coffee beans with her hips swinging to the beat of ragtime turned jazz which plays on the...

The Daughter of Night
The city is still, though the night birds trill,
And the dogs all bay at the moon.
As the felines prowl through the alleys foul,
They all know that she's coming soon.
While out for a walk, I stopped for a talk
With an old acquaintance of mine.
"She's coming," said he, in a voice of glee,
And he offered a glass of wine.
I shook my head no, and then turned to go,
And then he grabbed me by the arm.
"Be wary, my friend, or you'll meet your end.
The lady might just wish you harm."
I then turned away, and there, a bright...

Wallflowers
The shy and the sensitive,
that was said of us, the sort
that withers in soirees and dances
between boys and girls' schools.
There were men made for these,
they would go party-hopping
before deciding which combo
they preferred, where to preen all night.
The room would be lined with chairs,
everybody sat with their backs
against the wall -- except these men,
they do not slouch or sit, for they were
comfortable in their swagger,
the room was mapped by popularity:
a forest of the handsome corralling ...

Don’t look far away
Where sadness waits for us
Let both our eyes close
Kiss me here and now
A sweetly melting melody
Here, I’m drawn in
A labyrinthine paradise
No exit in my view
No ending for us two
Oh just surround me
I long for you
Don’t come in my way
This midnight paradise
Without a breath even
I deep dive right in
An intimate dance
Between us

Voices and mushrooms
I go back and forth in this mind of mine
With thoughts such as these who needs enemies?
One voice saying one while another responds
Let's die tonight, Let's not
Let's fight today, Let's give up
The thoughts never seem to stop
Round and round we go
Circling like wolves or cuttle fish
Dancing as we go in this clear door
It's a groovy cha cha slide
Ready for fisty cuffs with death one moment
And then ready to throw myself in their arms
It's a dramatic battle of the two ruling forces
Life or death either way it's my...
