The window of my soul exposed, in the midst of time
Slowly closing the portal to my heart, mind as my soul gradually ascends above the stars
The element of such a beautiful clandestine oath
Abandoned in the reality of truth
Claimed so gently in the heat of the night
Forbidden tender whispers

She walked into the nightclub
in a tantalizing tight black dress
accentuating every curve
strangely beautiful, I must confess.
Wearing orange Bakelite jewelry
she bought for just fifty cents
silver rings on every finger
her confidence sure to impress.

The Men Don't Dance
I feel the beat,
and in turn
find myself moved
to a busy dancefloor
always outnumbered by women
but thrilled by such odds
inevitably drawing one
close to me
eyes locked
safely seeing
if our bodies would match
in a different arena,
and my skill isn't as important
as my willingness
and that shift to a slower tempo
draws one to ask
if I will join
which I graciously do
and so often
it is confessed
that the husband don't dance
- it is a common complaint
and so, briefly
I engage in...

That fine-tunes his soul
For an irrepressible dance
On the streets of Old Cartagena

maybe our moon
will spill rhapsodic sentiments
of soul-whistled music throughout
the night filled with seductive notes
fingering hidden keys of
verses saturated with heady emotions
pulsing..rhythmic...steady
filling beds of unlined sheets
underlined through the abyss of
strained memories...pained and pleasured
stretching a spectrum of
such pretty thoughts & fiery veins

the depth of our roots was lacking ...

while the skies burst their seams
spin me across lightning bolts
as night spreads her wings
cobalt smudges bearing grudges
stomp the evening pale
leaving their darkened mark
as daylight meekly slips away
as flashes strobe through shadowed patches
touch my upturned face
kiss me
here
in the heart of the tempest
breathing deeply of my rapture
torn between the caution I've always practiced

Cool to the touch
in her retro Lennon shades

her hips slightly swag.
Wearing body-hugging pants
of avocado green
reminiscent of the 60s
it is quite the scene.

in her own living room

and singing to the tune.

There was only one brewery in our hometown covering the whole district on flat-bed wagons with 50 horses
to get work as a driver was a sought-after occupation
when crates had been delivered at one grocer there was
usually the sharing of a bottle of beer which during the day amounted to a fair of ale.

finding our groove
through the glowing confetti of bodies
undulating around the room
each one caught in their moment
unaware of our shifting mood
spots flare in opposite corners
your eyes colliding with mine
as the lights fade
and the floor empties
all other flickers blink out
until the room is completely empty
devoid of anything other than you
