Dancing Maidens of the Green

- Dancing Maidens of the Green -

Upon the summer's caressing heat, I felt the warmth upon my body,
Cooled somewhat by the soft breeze that flitted through the treetops.
From the tower where I looked out across the waters in the distance,
I allowed myself to wonder, to ponder, to lose myself so beautifully.
Entranced as I glanced upon the grassy slope that did thus envelop...
My attention, for there did fair elfin maids circle around, in a dance.
Singing voices lilting across the distance, never far and just below...
Calling me to join them in their revelry, that I might my pain forget.
Fairest of the fair folk, their gowns diaphanous and bright in colors!
A rainbow of such other-world loveliness, that I had come to know.
I descended, there to dally with the maidens in that hour of sunset...
As they thus serenaded me with many a lustily sung melodic verse.

At the base of the tower, down the slope and upon a green expanse,
There the maids did dance, and so there my feet did carry me hither.
Among them soon I was, lost in the symphony that only they wove!
Like a child come to play that day I allowed myself to gaily prance,
Whilst across the waters, dark clouds lay and caused land to wither.
But we were safe within the fey lands, securely protected by love...
The rings of faerie in the woods beyond the place of our dalliance,
Knew not the thought of mirth which was birthed in all our hearts.
Together, we allowed the dusk to pass on into night's fair bosom...
Wherein a pale illumination shone in moonlight without variance,
Uniform in beauty, where true artists act out their boldest of parts.
Our joy a play, past the hours of the day, when ecstasy then won!

They did not seek on me, to impose what I aught to have so been,
Contented in all our diversions, with every pleasure given license.
I simply was, and in the arms of those angelic girls I felt content...
Savoring their company entirely, enjoying all mine eyes had seen,
Whilst the towering pines lent their perfume so like unto incense.
On that eve, a fallen angel was loved by goddesses divinely sent!
If mankind could learn the lessons taught to me by their kindred,
Then love would be the driving force in all that humanity crafts...
With art driven by passion's glory unto heights beyond every star.
There would never be that darkness I saw which leaves all dead,
Nor clouds driven by storms of anger and fury, carried on rafts...
Which dive none to paradise, and leaves only the bloodiest scar.

Within the green, within the hidden paths, there lie lost secrets,
Guarded by naught, for we bring with us the only peril existing...
Into the lands of the fair folk, where for a time I was as a prince.
Or a princess perhaps beneath the evening stars' soft glistening!
No need for names or histories there, only feeling and emotion,
Carried so in heart, mind, and deed from across a distant ocean.
