Haunted Hibiscus
The hibiscus nearly died in winter's lack of empathy.
Yet the phantom peach petals persisted to be.
How can I know if love is immortal?
There must be a haunted portal.
To crawl through to defy fate.
To unlatch mortality's gate
Walking through shades and shadows never beamed by sun.
To the ghostly perfume of the hibiscus, my dim and weary thoughts run.
Never knowing if today is our very final bloom.

Intriguing title. It screamed read me first for me. You explore some of life's biggest questions in this lovely, lyrical piece. Great phrases throughout. I especially liked "un latch mortality's gate."

This is hauntingly beautiful.
I love the imagery...
So often we feel like the hibiscus dying... the lack of empathy.
And yet we always persist to be.
Love is often fleeting. And immortal love is painful.
Always searching for that haunted portal...
because it's better to be haunted than alone.
Existing in shades and shadows...
Still smelling the perfume of pheromones and desire.
That eternal longing where thoughts always run.
While so many shadows of the past torment us.
And still looking forward to a future of passion.
Perhaps love is unnecessary but to live without passion...
That is the most haunting thing of all.
