water's life and feels alive
Waves on the rocks a' crashing
In it human feet go splashing
And elsewhere in the swollen river
'gator tails go thrashing
Water may be stagnant
or it may be thus moving
Sometimes softly dripping
at times forcefully gushing
In brooks babbling
In streams gurgling
In springs bubbling
In rivers running
From faucets freely flowing
or from pipes coercingly spurting
At times noisily sloshing
But in lakes musically rippling
In it diving and wading
In it refreshing bathing
Or spic and span cleansing, rinsing
In it slow sailing or speedy surfing
Fishermen fishing or busy boating
Ah water, through cracks seeping
From waterfalls cascading
As rainwater splattering
From sprinklers sprinkling.
From hoses spattering
From rooftops streaming.
In whirlpools swiftly swirling
From taps simply trickling
Elsewhere rushing, whooshing
Ah yes water is life, water tis a böon
except when it goes flooding, drowning
or tsunami sea-quaking!
Then only it becomes a bane
as it drags dreams and dreamers
down the drain!
But oughtn't we be preserving
instead of forever polluting
This precious liquid so valuable to life
Oughtn't we be saving?
Instead of negligent wasting?
In it human feet go splashing
And elsewhere in the swollen river
'gator tails go thrashing
Water may be stagnant
or it may be thus moving
Sometimes softly dripping
at times forcefully gushing
In brooks babbling
In streams gurgling
In springs bubbling

A streaming cascade of poetic thoughts, masterly conducted like a symphony; thru the waving ebb and flow of words, stringed with magic fingers, ending with a rhyming continuous time, means that water is eternally splashing, streaming, gurgling, spurting from the ever begining of creation,,
water is life, life is water......then we are safe on this sacred Earth our mortal and eternal resort ...God bless you for ever. '' just stream you are a poetic theme. !!! kudos .''

Great message. Lots of gerunds. I thought it was awkwardly cool that you used the word "oughtn't".

Very dear Zaynab,
I love your poem very much. You wrote about everything that concerns water. It's not easy to write such a poem that can give a global idea about everything that concerns water. It's a great poem, Zaynab. Great work.

The rhyming gets a little monotonous after a while because it’s all just “ing” sounds. It might help if you focused on non-rhyming verse for now and created more images, as there are some neat expressions here, like dreams and dreamers being dragged down the drain, which is also nicely alliterative. Furthermore, rather than asking rhetorical questions in the last verse, it might help the poem to make them implicit in the text (i.e. “the water wastes as man harvests it”). JMHO, of course! Thanks for the read.

Um yeah monotonous like water trickling, ok like monorhyme type, i don't always write in such rhyming , this is just for a change, and more focused on the varied way water moves.
Thanks so much for your fine critique.

It's a good poem about how important water is, and sometimes how bad it can be too, which is kind of how nature can be in general. Part of the whole balance of life and all that.

How poor we are as a species to believe ANY resource is eternal. We have fought wars over land. We have fought wars over oil. The next war will be over water because we have wasted so many years wasting water.
Thoughtful write.

This reminds me of how much I love your poetry. It has been so long since I've read one of your gems. You explore water's many facets with dazzling virtuosity of imagery and power. This is the best and most detailed exploration of water and humanity's relationship to this life-giving element. I love the stream of words that takes me into the heart of our planet's liquid in all its life-giving power. And your ending brought home the need to preserve the resource that indeed makes up most of our bodies. Superbly penned and strongly evoked my friend.

At our very fingertips, the source that quells our inner fire. We neglect and pollute that which sustains our life.
You have written a stunning poem my friend. Continue to spread the message of a clean earth.

Great piece. It's interesting that it's essential for life to survive, but too much of it can also cause death.

We need more piece reminding people of taking care of our planet, water is an element so of course it has life within it. But we humans are slowly draining the life out of everything that we need to survive. Tight

The endless river, forever & ever! Pink Floyd. You describe water like it's oil, like it's gold & the lifeblood of life. Jesus lived for 40 days on water alone. I seem to remember that David Blaine also did something similar, suspended up high in a glass box by the tower of London!

An awesome poem. We are drying out our water, in many places around the globe, water is legislated by politicians paid by big business for their use and consumption especially in farming and beverage making while ordinary are left thirsty.
