Senryu Menu II
(K)
Why do we fear things?
In the end it comes around
to what it will be.
(L)
If you had been at
liberty to speak, would you
have said you love me?
(M)
I see a future
devoid of pain and sorrow
T’would I live that long.
(N1)
I’m afraid you’ve seen
me through such dirty lenses.
A shadow of dust-
***
(N2)
I am to the world.
Merely swept into the bin
and lost forever.
(O)
Praying and hoping,
my wish, at last was granted.
No returns...damn it!
(P)
Lost civility
my niche of solitude has
provided me strength.
(Q)
In sunshine I found
a wonderful surprise and
learned to love myself.
(R)
Lies and secrets are
not at all interesting.
Only deceitful.
(S)
You hide your beauty
behind a thick veil of pain.
I love you anyway.
(T)
Is this really it?
This is the summit of my
hard work and toil?
(U)
I walked a mile
in his shoes and found that I’m
better at his job.
(V1)
I can’t help wonder
if events were different
would we all have met?
(V2)
Amidst a dreamscape,
I fell sick for love of you.
I’m fine, now get lost.
(W)
Taking advantage
Makes me hate you even more.
Why continue it?
(X)
Denying your age
Will not make you sexier
Only pathetic.
(Y)
I loved romance but
I never understood it.
I wish I could have.
(Z)
Zed. The end is nigh.
I’ve enjoyed these senryu
I hope you have too.

I love every single one of these SO much, but this one really spoke to me:

Dear L,
Thank you for the RL honor.
Acceptance is the center of so many things and yet for me, I spend so much of my time fighting it. Why, you ask? No clue. Alas, when I finally do accept things I breathe easier and wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. I’m such an ijit. Thank you so much for your beautiful comments. I’m ever so grateful. H🌷

Yes!
I loooooved this piece last time and even more now! Who says sequels aren't as good!?!? That's certainly phooey here! This installment is
A W E S O M E!
The choosing process was a bitch,
(like Luna said, they were ALL so very good) but I had to dig deep and recognize that yes, I do love to "save the broken ones" Hence =

I love you anyway.
The 17 syllables of my life... lol
You nailed it and I'm now in desperate need of some self introspection and perhaps a jaunt back into therapy. Thank you!... lmao
I love this idea so very much and your brilliant beautiful heart, too
Ty for sharing it with us all.

Dear BV,
Thank you for the honor of RL.
I so often wonder why folks can’t just be themselves and then I get annoyed with them. Then I realize I do the same thing and I dig a deeper hole in which to hide. Go figure. If only we could appreciate our own beauty. What would the world look like then? Thank you so very much for these overwhelmingly kind and sweet comments. I’m touched beyond measure. Thank you again. H🌷

Wow! I really love this as much as your first ones. They were all very relatable in one way or another so I am hard pressed to pick a favorite one. So instead, I will pick two because they stand out the most to me and are both brilliant. So I am picking the last two of them. Great work!

Dear WS,
Thank you for the honor of RL.
Ah, manna from heaven if/when we can love ourselves for the goodness we are.
Your sweet and kind comments are an absolute present to me- I’m fumbling for words better than thank you and dang if I can find any. So, once again thank you for this lovely response. H🌷

I wrote this to friends the other night,
I doubt there are many things more exquisite than being an artist, a rage of joy in it's creation, music of the all light pouring through me, where all things are power in the heart thrown wide, all loss, fear and pain are transformed from illusion to awakening. Art is an act of God.

Wow sensational interesting bunches of verses, you muse in a fabulous way. My favourites were the niche stanza, the veil s stanza, and the ending seems a bit sarcastic all so nice. Kudos!!

Dear K,
Thank you for the honor of RL.
P and S, yes! To have a place you can call your own when the world becomes way too much is a tonic to make things bearable once again.
To be loved by someone no matter how much you don't love yourself is the greatest gift. I think these are touchstones for survival and I’m so grateful for your reading these minuscule insights and your sweet compliments. Thank you. H🌷

Great. Liked the most:
"Why do we fear things?
In the end it comes around

And also:
"I can’t help wonder
if events were different
would we all have met"

Dear E,
Love is a fickle business and sometimes I thought it worked out best to love from afar once I actually met the person I went coo coo for. It’s so odd how the head and heart work. I wish I could only claim this happenstance in my younger years! 😏 Thank you for the honor of RL.

Re. Senryu Menu II

The structure of this is original and interesting. The poem feels like an internal dialogue as someone tries to figure out what to do regarding a difficult emotional situation. This Senryu was my favourite, because it’s the wittiest:
”I walked a mile
in his shoes and found that I’m
better at his job.”
I'd prefer the poem to have more images, mainly because the raw natural image is the soul of short Asian poetic forms like Senryu. I recommend trying another set of Senryu where each one has at least one word describing a natural phenomenon (i.e. sunlight, grass, etc.).

Dear S,
Thank you for this extraordinary insight and thoughtful suggestions.
While I’d intended to leave this particular set up behind I find I’m drawn to your suggestion of trying this again and incorporating something of nature and a continuous flow between the individual poems. I might be a smidge confused between senyru and haiku and their technical definitions. But that might just be semantics. Either way I’m very drawn to your idea of natural phenomenons and will begin work on another menu. Thank you very much for your read and terrific input. They are truly appreciated. H🌷

I liked:
(T)
Is this really it?
This is the summit of my
hard work and toil?
I think I first asked the "is this it?" question about the age of 18. The question has been driving me forward ever since --
but I always balance it with a Buddhist notion of "ask not what you have done, but rather what type of person you have become". However, if one doesn't like oneself, this can be a bit of a bummer.
So I have a third notion, which I picked up on vision-quest 20+ years ago (from the Ehama People of the Teachings of the Delicate Lodge, in the Santa Cruz mountains at the time, now in New Mexico I think). The mantra: "You get what you settle for".
All the best for 2021. Josh

I’m going over in my mind your thoughtful response as such an incredible gift. I’ve continued to ask myself this question for nearly three decades and not once, or ever, would I have come around to the emotional and insightful conclusion you’ve provided “ You get what you settle for". I feel as though it’s just rained manna from heaven in terms of clarity for me and moving into 2021 providing strength and courage to not just settle. You are a treasure! Thank you so much for your kind, gracious and thoughtful comments. I wish you all the best in return for the coming new year. Thank you again. H🌷

Thank you for such a rewarding assessment of my comment. It's the "You get what you settle for" that always gets under my skin. Every time I feel I've reached a plateau where I can "settle down", something in me brings that saying back to my consciousness and I feel a need to make an effort to go in for another round up the spiral of life. Am in such a being-shaken-up phase currently.

Dear J,
For reasons of my own I completely understand your phase of being-shaken-up. I’m completely untethered and I don’t particularly have an appreciation for the feeling. At all. I’ve been trying not to settle but some days I’ll take that and happily stick my head back in the sand! I wish us all better days ahead.
