Yes I Know I Look Like I'm From South East Asia
The most common question strangers ask me is
"Are you From India?"
Pause. Rewind. Repeat.
"Are you from India?"
Pause. Rewind. Repeat.
"Are you from India?"
No! I am not from India.
I was born in Southern California
"Where the grass is green
And the girls are pretty".
And just to make sure we are clear,
I am one hell of a strange looking Mexican
Who happens to have native blood
Running through his veins.
And I know that no one means any disrespect.
It is merely a question after all,
Asked to an awkward bearded man
With some beautiful dark skin.
"Are you From India?"

I'm part Tigua Indian from my mothers side. They go way back the beginning of western expansion. And yes I agree with you I am human. That is what truly matters. We are all a part of one. Made from the same cosmic dust that created the universe. People don't realize how alike we truly are.

In this I agree with absynthe: The variety of mankind would make us a colorful and peaceful species if some weren't so ignorant. Cosmic dust, how beautiful!
