Nudes

I've gathered the pieces and returned
To the cocoa darkness where dreams
Dance like fireflies in your eyes.
The calm of the evening
Shadow where shed skin and bone dust
Scatter off with the passing thunder
To the horizon where the ships
Of the dead fall from earth's edge.
The two of us a tad
Worse for wear stand alone.
The storm quieting in weary whispers
Though blood pumps furiously,
Tom tom drums quickening
Like New York hip hop
Beating through the streets.
I touch your hand your fingers
Calloused and dry but flannel
Warm with laughter and song.
We embrace in the smooth
Waters of the soul our mouths open
In play like kitten siblings.
I lift the lace away from your neck
Your shoulders glistening like moonlit
Fields of fresh fallen snow.
The sweet cream of your breasts
Downy clouds wearing thin
The remains of crimson skies.
I sip the wine that is you,
My throat tingling,
My mind spinning,
My muscles trembling
To cradle the relentless wanting.
Our breath as one with the breaking
Waves deeper and deeper as the tide rises.
We lick the last of the rain
From our damp bodies dancing
Slowly on the great white beach
With every grain of sand a sterling
Memory of what was
Once you and I.
