Sacred Dust
In moonlight’s glow
and shadows grey
wafting incense
and cleansing sage
a coarsen circle of salt
seals shut the gate
A potion of spells
begins to take hold
a Life-force of energy
emanating Love
Transcendental planets
begin to align—
Uranus, Neptune
and Pluto by design
The binds of ancient portals
release their sacred lock
Spirits of our Ancestors
beyond the veil come forth
Incandescent bodies of light
illuminate the hour
Ashes of Earth begin to rise
through this Holy power
By an ancient tongue
we speak, softly at first
With a flick of henbane
from our hand
fueling the fiery flames
Tree limbs move
above our song
maestros to the sound
Hearts coupling
through unified blood
in thunderous crescendo
The witch's path embraces
the power of Mother Nature
Secrets of civilizations past
openly present their favor
Together we join hands
weaving the circle tight
creating medicinal magic
to provide a healing light
Moonlit silverfish dart
through each and every branch
cojoin schools of ember
rising from the ash
The Spirit of Lilith
the Spirit of Eve
calling forth our name
we humbly open our hearts
to listen and obey
With each spoken word
an orb of women grows
strong are brave among us
who harken to the truth
Herbs in the cauldron
gurgling forth their scent
each hallowed bubble
a consecrated release
Here in the heart of wood
where all wild things roam
we dance within their echoes
to remembered ways of old
O! Elemental forest
heed our call—
together we rise
together we fall
Our intentions fully ignite
here, in this witching hour
and by the promise of Hecate
we claim the passage of rite
We diffuse our wishes
within the smoke
that rides the winds that roam
By this sacred dust we beget
the origins of ancient lore
There is no beginning
there is no end
the circle remains unbroken
where two or more are gathered
now, and ad infinitum
and shadows grey
wafting incense
and cleansing sage
a coarsen circle of salt
seals shut the gate
A potion of spells
begins to take hold
a Life-force of energy
emanating Love

Thank you, Dreamz. Not sure about winning. There's a LOT of great entries in that comp but wanted to support Jackie. Thank you too, for the RL honor.
I feel if you begin to study the old ways you'll be enlightened to how much they have been revised ( vs translated ) by others throughout the ages. Particularly religion in order to maintain control of their congregations, and by all means prevent them from straying and discovering a "Truth" which contradicts their control. ;)

My pleasure,dear Tams.
That's so true what you said!
Btw, have you heard of the wiccan song ..."Witches runes"
I love it! 😍

I had a very good friend who was Wiccan. I was always enthralled with her religion. Not enough to practice myself, but I enjoyed listening to her tell me of rituals, she read my tarot cards (amazingly accurate), it was always a good time.
Your poem brought back some good memories.
I really enjoyed this, Ahavati.

Oh I like this poem...scenes of forests and waterfalls, druids and Dryads come into my mind. Moonlit mysterious paths...etc. I'm a die hard romantic perhaps...🌹Ahavati.

That first stanza drew me in immediately (it's breathtakingly beautiful) and got me glued to the screen until the last. Amazing piece, Ahavati, love this one. Good luck in the comp :-)

This reminds me a bit of a movie I love, The Craft. I always enjoy your more New Age-y stuff, since you present it from a place of knowledge as well as poetic skill. There’s a pleasing mysticism to it all, and at this time of year it feels nicely autumnal too.

I truly enjoyed that you set up the mood and scenery before going into the chant. Perfect for the season, great for the wiccan practice I imagine.
Best of luck in the comp.

Thanks, Wally! Much appreciated. I didn't place but that's understandable. The request was for a 'chant' and nothing else. But you know me - gotta set the mood! lolol
Re. Sacred Dust
I enjoyed this very much. It speaks of a ritual spirituality through chants and the passages that go with it and can be hypnotic when reading because of its length.
While reading, I was reminded of some Led Zeppelin lyrics from a song called Carouselambra.
"Sisters by the wayside bide their time in quiet peace, await their place within the ring of calm."
Well done, A.

Something beguiling about such knowledge that is pushed to the fringes. Although I have no knowledge of this, I feel that your words have the power to evoke this arcane knowledge.

Thank you, SeaCat. Nice to see you back about the place. I'm by no means a witch—but may have currently been one in a past life! lolol

So are you going to chant this in a video recital? I think it would be really cool!
What a very creative and compelling poem. You definitely have some literary skills, young lady!

This brought me a lot of peace.
Your descriptions are unparallel. The forest, the calm night with the promises of empowerment, the details -- the silverfish and their place in a grand world.
Utterly perfect.
And the end, the promise that the circle remains. That's real beauty.
Again... perfection.
