Image for the poem MaMedusa

MaMedusa

I see her writhing
sliding movement
across the stone floor
She gaurds the path
that leads to the door
and she waits
and she smiles
in her knowing
There is no escape
Yet they all try
and they all die
While I hide
watching her ways
and fearing the gaze
I am amazed
by the face
of beauty displayed
that destroys
enslaves and creates
a tomb of statuary
frozen instantly
throughout eternity
MaMedusa's
maternal legacy
Marbelized offspring
previously
intent on murdering
the lady of the lair
but the serpent witch
with vipers nested
in the locks of her hair
never fears
any who come near
I wear my fear
dripping down my neck
between my legs
Mother dear bids me
*Come here child
come near
I want to taste
the salt you wear*
I always turn and run from her
Can't face that fate
of what awaits for me
down there
in her death trap pit
Floors crawl with maggots
that feast on death
They squirm through shit
released from agony's bowels
and spilled down the legs
of the intruders she's found
So I run and hide
where she can't find me
Through purple silk curtains
and suffocating steam
Girls are naked, showering
trying to be clean
In the upper rooms
of MaMedusa's lair
where the lie is prepared
that some lucky one
might get to go free
If you pass her test
If you're cleaner than the rest
The exit is right over there
Bring your sweet little ass
down the stairs
Then look into her eyes
Let Mama see if you're ready
Only dirty girls have to die
That's why I always hide
in my dream
She sees inside my mind
She already knows
I'm not clean
and she's hungry
I've seen the torn silk cloth
wrapped around the claw
of her hands, cold and slimy
I've watched her feed before
MaMedusa comes from behind
to cover the eyes
of live fresh meat
The serpent bitch strikes
and then she laughs
and her laugh becomes
shrieks and screams
echoing and reverberating
against miles of hallways
tunnels and stone
The only voice she ever hears
is the madness of her own
I try to creep quietly
hoping she can't hear
how heavily I'm breathing
Then softly, almost sweetly
MaMedusa sings
*Come out baby girl
Don't hide from me
Come out, come out
It's time to eat*
I start whispering prayers
Please keep me safe
Don't let her find me
I hear footfalls nearby
Feet!
Not a tail
slithering closer
I hear feet
Carefully, carefully
I dare to peek and see
A man standing there
reaches out for me
He lifts me up and I collapse
into safety
Finally
I awake from the nightmare
From that horrible
childhood recurring thing
that makes me
think of my mother
and I wonder why
I keep having the dream
If I will ever be free
or clean
