Hometown Husk

I'm laying here in a hotel room
All my friends are busy and my dogs sleeping
Why did I come back here again
What more can this place give me?
I think about hitting you up
But I know that that is a terrible idea
I wrote you a letter before I left the city
And I'm laying here debating hiding it somewhere
And giving you detailed directions to find it
Like a game of pirates children play
But we're not children, huh?
And x doesn't always mark the spot
I'm laying here all grown up,
My fingers worrying the paper envelope
I came to reconnect with my friends
To find some kind of closure
Some kind of ending with this place
It's cold in a cutting, biting way
And all I can think about are the eyes
The multitude of eyes who know me
It's suffocating to say the least
To have thousands of memories
On all these streets of this town
Of all the people here that I could see
I just want to see you just once more
Hand you this letter and go home
Because I'm more than this town now
I'm more than you and my friends can't keep me here
We all spreading out anyway, soon we'll all be gone
And this town will just be a husk filled with ghosts
