My Guiding Light

My Guiding Light

A pack of wolves’ howl at the moon,
from the top of a ridge overlooking a road,
on a dark, starless night in mid-June,
as I sit on the side of the road ready to implode.

Forward go has brought me sorrow.
Back tracking brings along a return of my pain.
The sun always rises and brings tomorrow.
My guiding light shows me the way through the dark, even when I wane.

This night is different, I sense trouble.
I’m lost in the dark with only a gun.
An hour goes by and soon it doubles.
Time is running out; my senses scream out for the sun.

My guiding light is nowhere in sight.
Why must it leave me now, all alone in the dark?
I stand and continue my journey through the darkness, fighting hard with all of my might.
I don’t make it long before I’m defeated, I’ve lost the spark.

My guiding light has abandoned me.
This must be what she wanted.
The serpents head enters my mouth.
It feels right; this is where it’s meant to be.
Fear sweats down my face as I grip the serpent.
I begin to laugh; my light has vanished.
I’m going insane, wait I already am!
I’m rotten down to the pit of my soul.
What else do you expect from me?

My light was my salvation.
It kept me from going insane.
Now it’s gone, the monster’s unleashed.
See me for what I truly am.

I loved you with all of my heart,
but who could love a monster like me?
The serpent promises a new start,
one I’ve been longing for.

Goodbye my guiding light.
You tried to show me the way but I’m not right.
I pull the serpents trigger…
As my guiding light arrives to watch my demise.
