So to that end I was hoping you might be able to share best way to save / copy our poetry and catalogues

Thanks in advance

Copy and paste is about it.
Screenshots otherwise.
Writing directly on to the site is mad, though. I can't believe many members have done it. 😬

AFTER the unfair ruling in 2013, where i lost a lot of spills due to the speedy KICKING ME TO THE CURB, i lost a lot of ink that i failed to copy.

Since those troubling days, i PDF everything that matters to me that i've posted here.

There is no easy way to copy Your ink.  One by effin One, Y'all gonna have to copy and paste.  i feel for You Prolific spillers.

Can highly recommend Evernote as a good way to catalogue, but it would be a case of copying and pasting I’m afraid.

Thankfully I back up once a month so it hasn’t hit me too bad. Which is just as well because I had a look and I have 3147 from my 14 years here 😱

This is for those of you who want to make copies of all of your poems, which will take about 5 to 30 minutes depending on how many you have and how fast your download speed is.

1) Download, install, & launch the freeware program HTTrack Website Copier. You can find it at:
https://www.httrack.com

2) create a project name such as DUP ARCHIVED

3) create an empty folder on your computer to store webpage copies in. You may opt to include the date, so you know when you last archived. Example: 2021_06_29_JohnnyBlaze

4) choose action : Download web site(s)

5) Hit the ADD URL button, then enter the address of your poem list. Example:
http://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poem-list/JohnnyBlaze/

6) Hit the SET OPTIONS button, then the SCAN RULES TAB. Paste over the existing text with the following parameters:

+*.png +*.gif +*.jpg +*.css +*.js -ad.doubleclick.net/* -mime:application/foobar
-*/*login*
-*/*register*
-*/*forum*
-*/*poets*
-*/*questions*
-*/*search*
-*/*-poems*
-*/*poems-*
+*/poems/*

7) Hit the FINISH button, which begins the archiving. Keep in mind, the program is also copying images from each of your poems pages. So when the "files written" reaches 5X the amount of poems you have, it's a good bet that you are finished. If you have 400 poems, then copy at least 2,000 files.

8) Hit CANCEL when you wish to stop the program. Or otherwise you will end up archiving ALL of DUP, which would probably take at least a week.

9) Hit CANCEL again. Don't ask me why.

10) In the folder you created on your computer, you will find a file named "index.html". This is a copy of your poem list linked to copies of all of your poem pages. It can be browsed offline. Just click on the index.html file to have your browser open it. The archiver works alphabetically, so doublecheck the poems at the end of your list to see if they copied.

The parameters included in Step 6 are meant to discourage HTTtrack from archiving some, not all, of the other pages hosted on "deepundergroundpoetry.com".

Yes, Step 8 ( guessing when the program is finished ) is obnoxious, but it can't be avoided. Every poem here is hosted in a single folder named "deepundergroundpoetry.com/poems/ " There is no way to distinguish who wrote what in order to exclude other authors.

Good luck!

I think most of my work is backed up, except for those rare times when something came to me and I wrote it straight to the site. Those shouldnt be too hard to find...

But I'm wondering about my reading list? I used that as a place to keep stuff that inspired me & I'd like to read again. Ahavati, do you know if there's any way to use the process you described to download a reading list?

I'm sorry.

Mine is downloading now so I'll let you know if it worked. You may have skipped a step or something.

EDIT: Mine downloaded. It took around 9 minutes. I haven't perused the files yet because I don't have time but will let you know.

EDIT (again): I can't find the file! I may have to redo it!

K, the url for your reading list should work the same way that the poem download link worked. Instead of

https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/poem-list/Ahavati/

Try

https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/reading-list/Ahavati/

Ahavati, thank you for the suggested route you have outlined. I just wonder, I have 1,595 poems (some of which I may permanently delete) more than the example of 400 you give. Could you give me an idea how long it could take for me to download my poetry list of that size?

I may use that route if I hear encouraging success stories from other poets with their experience but I appreciate it may be something best done when I have enough of an undisturbed day to myself (not possible with a full time job to hold down until I retire end of June).

You're very welcome.

When your files hit around 7,975 downloads, I would cancel so it stops. Check the last file downloaded to ensure that it matches your last poem. If not - then search for the last downloaded in your poem list and download from there on back if you want to save them.
