Frosty Autumn Leaves
In our minds your memory burns bright
Gone too soon, laid to rest, eternally
The autumn leaves and frost
Decorate your absence
Memories of happiness
Memories of love
Long, winding roads led you home
Led us on different paths
Tangled like branches
Lost in the sound of silence
Your memory lives on in the autumn leaves and frost
Silence
You live on
Gone too soon, laid to rest, eternally
The autumn leaves and frost
Decorate your absence
Memories of happiness
Memories of love
Long, winding roads led you home
Led us on different paths
Tangled like branches
Lost in the sound of silence
Your memory lives on in the autumn leaves and frost
Silence
You live on

Winter's Prose
In autumn's glow, the world begins to rest
And amber leaves descend in weathered flight
The summer's heat now finds a gentler quest
As chilly winds chase the lingering light
The trees, donning their robes of ember gold
Stand sentinel against the waning sun
Their branches reach with tales of seasons old
While shadows stretch as days are nearly done
The air is crisp, a breath of frost and pine
As harvests yield their bounty to the earth
The twilight hours in muted hues align
And nightfall's calm descends with...
And amber leaves descend in weathered flight
The summer's heat now finds a gentler quest
As chilly winds chase the lingering light
The trees, donning their robes of ember gold
Stand sentinel against the waning sun
Their branches reach with tales of seasons old
While shadows stretch as days are nearly done
The air is crisp, a breath of frost and pine
As harvests yield their bounty to the earth
The twilight hours in muted hues align
And nightfall's calm descends with...

Autumn's Embrace
Because we are poets
We feel so much
Fall's sudden brisk temperature
Releasing us from summer's hold
Sudden rummaging through draws
Finding sweaters long tucked away
Sleep has been better
Morning's crisp and dog walking faster
I covered you up
Blanket askew
You lay exposed to my hungry eyes
Morning desire to have and to hold....

beautifully dying days
pale pearl grey of haze
shifting across a slowly lightening sky
revealing what is concealed...briefly
before settling restlessly
upon reluctant dawn
mind slips into the shadows
studying symbology
as untethered foliage drifts
dying bits of memory
brilliant hues of last gasp
before decay takes its place
becoming nutrients
for rebirth
& upcoming tomorrows
fertilizing hopes
how like reality it seems
when summer days fade
time slips away
bursting with desperate exuberance ...

AUTUMN/FALL COMES - NUDIST'S LAMENT
The leaves are falling off the bushes,
There'll be none left to hide blushes
As we walk, hands on middle crossed,
To salvage the dignity lost.
When it gets icy and slipping,
It's too cold for skinny dipping.
Frost at extremities gets nipping,
Ambles are turned to skinny skipping.
Our summer tans will fade away,
Leaving our skins a fleshy grey
Unless we've cash to fly away
Where tropic suns still heat the day.
There'll be none left to hide blushes
As we walk, hands on middle crossed,
To salvage the dignity lost.
When it gets icy and slipping,
It's too cold for skinny dipping.
Frost at extremities gets nipping,
Ambles are turned to skinny skipping.
Our summer tans will fade away,
Leaving our skins a fleshy grey
Unless we've cash to fly away
Where tropic suns still heat the day.

High Noon Noel
Clean the gutters
hang the lights
watch the flutters
in jaybird flights
squirrels and Yule nuts
by the frosty yard
wiggle wee furry butts
in stashing them so hard
and then the little tits
come and go so fast
it's hard to scan the plumage flits...
wherever they've amassed.

Curtain Call
Shakespeare was right 'all the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players'.
It's no wonder then that as I age I'm no longer the star of the show.Still on the stage but only just. Consigned to the background as an act of kindness.Audiences once held spellbound by my skill and vigour, now lean back in their seats with jaws wide open.
As I forget my lines and the makeup artists can no longer conceal the sagging blotchy skin, the thinning hair or the droopy eyes. They gasp as one as I move Biden like across the stage.Fearful I might stumble, fall and shatter bones...

maple leaves
at first,
just a
thought
of falling,
happy
now as
they lay,
unfaded,
but with
a whisper
from a
bitter wind,
it took
hands
that could
reach me
and
separated
us.

for those who were not born a butterfly
he tripped
and fell and fell and fell and fell
unpredictable
like blood on the gums
on the precipice
like sea birds
falling falling falling falling falling
like letter openers
like samurai swords
and fall and fall and fall and fall
as if they had already occupied
the place of the dead
like a falling body
no vertigo
no free falls
no films that melt on the screen
he tripped over himself...

Fall, with Open Arms
Round here, the summers are brutal
Today it was One-0-Eight
(That’s 42 to some of you)
It’s so hot your skin can fry and bake
‘Round here, summer starts in April
And sometimes lasts past September
Why did I move to this place?
Dang it, I wish I could remember
But once the season changes
And the sun has a new position
Something magical happens
I begin to have a sunnier disposition
The cool breeze brings bright memories
Of my college years, of freshman days
When youth and opportunity seemed endless
When...

Visions Of September
It is the Autumn, of your eyes
I see them clear, I know them wise...
On Spring's green hill, we danced amongst pine
sprouting up and about, in pure sunshine
We spun our arms, we held on fast
impatient feet slipping, on dew-dipped grass
We fell together, two lovers too young
to love anything more, than having fun
We chewed on weeds and stared at the sky
layed amongst creatures too small to try
To see for themselves what all we've seen
a sun that wakens us, to the awe of Spring
...

Empty Trees
The setting sun made the final clinging leaves
shine like dangling red jewels.
The scarlet shimmer infused my imagination
with creative fuel
Trees are not like people,
they don't feel empty.
Why do we grieve for that
which cannot be retrieved?
Barren branches know.
It's so much easier just to let go.
Creation always finds a way to grow.
shine like dangling red jewels.
The scarlet shimmer infused my imagination
with creative fuel
Trees are not like people,
they don't feel empty.
