The Lady Vanishes

Last night, in a dream
I purchance
Met my perfect partner
It was love at first sight
Yet, after much talking
It seemed as though
We'd been together
Forever
She went to the loos
And didn't return
I was deeply puzzled by this
And wondered if i'd completely misread the situation
I watched the door for a while
Then asked for someone to check if she was okay
But there was no-one there
All the loos were empty
I was obviously further puzzled, as there was no back door
Maybe i'd been lost in some waking dream?
Next day, i returned to the various locations we'd visited
And asked each, if they had recordings
On cameras
One did, and we found footage
Of me entering the bar
Alone
I also saw some other customers
Giving me strange looks
As i seemingly seemed to be talking to myself
I got talking to an elderly customer
And told him of my experience
Giving fairly accurate description of her
He replied by saying
"That'll be Eva"
"She's been haunting this town for over 50 years now"
After which, he got off his seat, and left
After further searching, i asked the owner
Who was the old man?
He said "What old man?"
I described him to the owner
Who paused for a moment, then said
"That sounds like old Alf, but he died 10 years ago!"
