Show me where
in this world
a billionaire
is without the blood
of someone on his hands
Show me case history
where there are no ghosts
shadowing his money trail
Or maybe the man
who built the machine
isn’t all bad
Maybe he works late
from a 58th floor
on Wall Street
counting the dead
on an abacus
How simple
ancient
innocent
Maybe the sound
of those clicking beads
is all he needs
to make him happy
After all, he’s too far into killing
to claim there is such a thing
as silence
There isn’t a ship in port
or stationed train
that can depart without blood
thick in the brig of its joints
Show me in nautical points
or across tracks
there are no ghosts
rising and falling
in the foam of landscapes
And I'll show you
the face of war
because there are no borders
when bloodshed
has no boundaries
My worst fear, you ask?
Is that humanity
the one that loves everybody
will just give up

Indeed, I'm forever flabbergasted by the lack of attention to how we so rarely hear from the actuarial departments about firearm statistics.
What a difference that would make to the public discussion.
Law must be based on sound reason, accurate data, and compassion, or risk being completely irrelevant, or counterproductive, to the human condition, and our environment.

Thanks, Shannon. Those mines you reference are horrible! And yet, here we are reaping the benefits of their labor. Hopefully for positive awareness.

Great poem; I love the image of the cold click-click of the abacus in contrast to the flesh & blood suffering on the battlefield.
In Robert Frost's poem "Mending Wall" there is that repeating line: ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’ I wish it were so.

Thank you, Josh. You nailed the underlying meaning! Great poem reference by Frost; I wish it were so too.

I've always said, they were genocidal maniac before they became philanthropist....
Great piece and a very true reflection of the world ...

Thank you, Wally! Much appreciated. I am constantly seeking truth, sometimes through science and other times through spirituality.

Greetings Ahavati; how are you... I see you, murder death an sin predate human social & financial class separations...Ed Gein, for example was a poor country boy, that enjoyed dark perversions... But, dig this write, enjoyed readin this very much... Take good care mine friend:

Dearest Ahavati,
This is brilliance. You capture the wickedness in ill found wealth grown on the backs of the less fortunate...leaving wreckage in their wake without concern.
Love these lines:
there are no borders
when bloodshed
has no boundaries
And also fear that humanity will be lost. Thanks for sharing.
Bless
Mel

Not in my book, thank goodness. There are still fighters for love.
Thanks for the comment and RL. Much appreciated.
