The elephants
Elephants are huge
they cast giant shadows
have wide flat round feet
and lots of love for the trunk.
Elephants are annoying
with their bodies
stunning
the soft memories
of stupid children's faces.
Elephants know
many and diverse people
which if it's not a friend
must be a far relative.
Such lonely animals
take up lots of space
but they can't hide
because they don't fit
in the closets.
They mess with everything and everyone
want to be part of history
but they get lost in...

come upon st. charles
ice cream shop sign says

look to have committed

empty school
can almost see
children playing

nothing but graffiti and weeds
this isn’t the inner city
this is the land of
