I look at you and you look at me
We both know what the others thinking
It isn't fair and isn't right but we're still thinking it
My eyes trace your jaw and yours trace my lips
It'll never go anywhere it just drowns in yearning
I catch it in glimpses out the corner of my eye
When you don't think I know your eyes are on me
You look at me in a way that makes my heart break
There's no way that feeling isn't mirrored in mine
Wanting something we can't have is heavy as hell
There's a love here that we try to drown deep inside
Hidden in a friendship and our choices to not be together
Ships in the night trapped in the same harbor
You smile at me and I smile at you because you're mine
You will always be mine

Sometimes that is the best for both, we recently had a friend that put it all on the sleeping with a close friend. They destroyed a great friendship and each blames the other one for it's destruction. Tight work

I could see this at the close of a memoir, or perhaps at the opening would be even better. The direct address has terrific ability to arrest attention, I found myself tuning into the sense of emotion and the shadow of the relationship, it is very resonant writing. Terrific brevity to the address, ghosts of the unsaid.

I have to say, this is beautiful and torturous at the same time. Relatable. How many folks have been in this situation, but I guess love sometimes means leaving it to the universe and that the other person finds happiness, even if it means to be sad.
But still makes for beautiful poetry.

I really do want them to be happy. Even if that happiness isn't found with me. Maybe when we're old and grey we'll figure it out. Just having them in my life is enough for me. I think that's the purest love I have for someone.
