and when trouble arose,
as it is wont to do
she asked for clarification,
rather than allow assumption
to make a fool of us both;
she gave her translation
of my misspoken words,
allowing me to speak better,
more clearly in my intent;
then she smiled, all the way
to her eyes, having plucked
the chord of familiarity growing
between her and I; on days
like today, I know tomorrow
we will arise friends once again
as it is wont to do
she asked for clarification,
rather than allow assumption
to make a fool of us both;
she gave her translation
of my misspoken words,
allowing me to speak better,
more clearly in my intent;
then she smiled, all the way

we will arise friends once again

It's a difficult theme, which deserves more poetic space. Mental health can be highly primed at this time of year, and yet it can get lost in all the festive shenanigans.

What a great friend to have! This spoke strongly to me and I'm going to return to read it over and over. Thank you.

Thank you, Ellie! I’ve learned that the best kind of friend to have is one who holds me accountable for my actions, but has patience and allows for grace when my head gets a little crowded. Those kinds of friends are better than chocolate cake for breakfast, and chocolate cake for breakfast is pretty damn good 💖

Dear L,
No greater gift than that friend who will love us during our darkest hours, zaniest ideas and clumsiest moments spoken or misspoken in haste or disassociation. I really treasured this expression of such a friendship and the honesty of self in realizing there was a confusion and then a clarification. It’s a beautiful poem to me of pure love between friends who truly care. Lovely write.

"she asked for clarification,
rather than allow assumption" too often relationships have gone awry for the simple act of assuming.
Nicely penned.

Sometimes we can misconstrue far too easily making such an impactful mess when there really needn't be.... I think we've all been there on either side of this poignantly penned poetic truth. It says so much about the vast amounts of patience, love, quality of character and the bonds of meaningful friendship that two people can share. I adore that clearing the air felt so smooth and seemless, with only an intent to properly understand.... on either end. Keeping those important and cherished longtime friendships going, to me, is always worth it.
I very much enjoyed the audio, it added such an additional layer of warmth and truth in a valued experience.
Thank you for sharing yourself with us, Luna... it's a pleasure. Hope the new year treats you well.

Blue, your visits are always poetry. I feel deeply understood, thank you so much 💖
Also, thank you for the kind words about the reading. It’s only the third one I’ve ever done, and I was a bit nervous to post it. I appreciate you.

My friend used to say
Don't Assume because when you do you are just: making an ASS (of) U (and) ME.
I just miss my friend now. The ultimately results from clarification and communication are deeper connection. Thank you for sharing
Lots of Love

Hoi hoi
Your usual almost shy poems resonate with a lot of people.
I hope you’ll take strength from that.
I wish I had this confident shyness.
And if you take strength from it like I would do, I promise to read allyou’ll want to share with me.
Or with us……
Kind regards, Gus

It reminds me of a technique taught to us (my wife and I in counseling) a simple phrase, "so what I hear you say is .............?" That way it gives the other person a chance to hear what you heard and often the message is distorted, and the person has a chance to clarify. I can not tell you how many times this has avoided "the wrong assumption". This piece transcends time and affects everyone I believe. Thank you for sharing with your warm and wonderful voice.

I learned that technique in therapy, too. It’s a wonderful tool that creates an opportunity for understanding and clarity. Thank you so much for reading, TIG!
