POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I write a lot about the darker side of the human condition, the restorative powers of nature, and the need to have hope. I've been published in many anthologies and hope to have my own poetry collection out later this month! Memoirs to follow next year.
So, I did this thing...
I've written a book! Here is the UK link. I can obtain links for other countries if people would like me to... just shout.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B92HCLWH
I have NO illusions about selling copies, other than to family and close friends. I did it because I wanted and needed to. If I exceed the expected six sales, I'll be over the moon.

The Visitor (3)
If you were a person,
I’d ask you where you came from and
if you planned on going.
I could send you far away
to see how life would have been.
If you had a voice,
I’d want you to tell me
why you picked me,
whether I could have done something differently
and what is the best way to handle your visits.
If you had a mind,
I’d ask you what you want with me.
What is the learning objective here?
Also, how did you hide yourself from others;
camouflaging yourself as part of me
until I reached the age...

Fairy Godsister
Of all the ways to make a friend,
saying, “I’m sorry. I was jealous of you,”
ranks quite highly
in the unlikeliness stakes.
“Don’t be daft, come round for dinner!”
you replied,
and the rest is history.
Over time, we created our own language
from a musical vocabulary.
We forged conversation
through melody and harmony,
but it was in the silences,
the way we could read each other’s intentions,
that gave it meaning.
So many threads still bind us—
I don’t tell you often enough
how loved and...

Hollow words
He said, "Dispense
with pretence". It
made sense, although
now I know that
means no more of his insincere chat.

Still (Collaboration with PAR)
What are you waiting for
at that measured distance,
submerged in silence?
Perhaps you are hoping
that time will turn backwards;
that history will rewrite itself.
Or do you await a rescuer
to take you away from here?
On the streets,
last night's fog
remains.
The meagre glow
of the waning,
infinite sequence
of footprints
that we left
is just discernible.
My eyes linger once more
upon your distant silhouette.
I glance behind me one last time
before I...

Autumn
Leaves once green turn
brown, fires burn; kids
return to schools.
Weather cools and
rain pools on the land.

Hope
After the darkest night, daybreak.
After the fiercest storm, calm.
After the toughest battle, peace.
Hope. Espoir. Speranza.
Always. Toujours. Sempre.

Effects (Collaboration with PAR)
The reverberation
of his words
hung in the air,
resonating
within her soul
from afar.
Snippets of phrases
echoed in
the caves of their ears;
a train coming out
of a golden seashell;
screech and whistle
pulsating in its wake.
Half-formed phrases
vibrated into song
which, beating,
grew so strong.
In a harmony glow
so far from home
as a red drop
in the neverending snow,
they listened.

Mobile Phones
Teenagers need mobile phones so that
they can call and ask for a ride,
then tell you that they're walking.
Scrap that. Friend's taking them.
"Oh no, that fell through!
Please come get me!
Where are you?
You're late.
MUM!"
And
also,
mobiles are
in constant use,
attached to their ears
(surgically? Almost!)
chatting with their friends all day
but when I want to contact them,
no joy... They're incommunicado!!

Making good
Who better to trust
than he who fixes all things —
rebuilds vehicles,
restores engines, repairs clocks,
builds, constructs and renovates?
