Perspective
"Would you teach me?" she asks.
There was hesitation
about an upcoming date.
Already
the man had mentioned combined incomes
and I could see dating over 60
seemed to focus on less fun
and more details
I told her to trust herself
and despite that worry
of loneliness
there were other ways to get by
She seemed shocked
that I didn't play in the dating pool
and I confessed that fantasy carried me through
There would have been a time,
where I would have held that back,

In The Arms Of An Angel
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me
Lead me always to the light as my breath at times may become shallow
Bless over my mind when my words are too weak to manifest upon my delayed swallow
Receive me, thy Lord, as the cord of my life returns to the cocoon of my existence
My astral traveling, a star dust in the stratosphere interwoven of many placentas
I have been reborn, may Deja vu moments allow me to connect the...

The Calm in Crisis
In the midst of chaos
I am at peace
holding my hand
on the valve release
Always the mediator
for any crisis afloat
in need of saving
I am the life boat
Akin to disturbance
our lives interlace
tell me your troubles
I will hold your space
Traumatic events
I know them well
your secrets kept
not meant to tell
Truly belonging
in the heart of the storm
normal for me
where I was born
In turbulent times
I am at home
here I am calm
my place is known
I am at peace
holding my hand
on the valve release
Always the mediator

The Resilience of a Poet
The resilience of a poet comes from the heart
From the deepest part of the human soul
And yet there is a strength from this poetess
It’s something that can’t be expressed in words
But there is a profound sense of understanding
Something that takes time and tide and time again
It goes beyond the realm of our comprehension
Something this poetess sees and feels and tells
With every breath poetry pours with calmness
Illuminating like a beacon beckoning a smile
Reckoning the intricate webs and nuances of life
In admiration of stars...

For Elisha
I.
I am sure you felt its shadow
locomotive smoke growing thicker
that plumule bomb
of hazardous waste
pulverizing the landscape
of your lungs
There are so many cliches
for a time like this. . .
‘Take care of you’
‘It will be alright’
‘I’m so sorry’
‘I’m here if you need me’
'What can I do'
But the truth is
it hurts to concentrate
on a war game
of chemotherapy
and radiation roulette

I Am Me
That which makes me vulnerable
also affords me strength
protecting those I love
to any needed length
Kindness and compassion
for disadvantaged and meek
belief in service
for the sick and the weak
Empathetic by nature
no judgement of thee
a walk in your shoes
allowing me to see
Not without fault
far from perfection
apology for mistakes
builds a connection
I have no pedestal
for which to stand
when in your darkness
extending my hand
Caring and forgiving

Legalized Addiction
You probably see what the photographer photographed
A variety of liquor bottles ready for purchase and consumption
I sorta see that too
Many see this image and think of people partying, having a good time,
getting drunk and maybe fucking their lover or some total stranger,
alcohol has that effect
Many people use it to relax after a hard days work or school
Some may see alcohol as a crutch, a friend,
something they can turn to when life gets to heavy or complex
Millions rely on alcohol to wash away their memories, their...

Loneliness Is More Hazardous to Your Health Than Obesity or Smoking
This isn't a story or a poem. This is real life. I'm writing this because many friends and family members I know are suffering. This problem has become drastically worse since 2020. We all know why...
Loneliness plays a role in many chronic health conditions, including pain, drug or alcohol abuse and depression. Recent studies have linked loneliness to an increased risk for Alzheimer's disease, heart attack and stroke, and lower survival rates for breast cancer patients. Studies have also shown that people who are lonely are more likely to experience:

you have left me
hours barely passed,
such fleeted body,
you ravaged

and made your choice

Poemorama
There’s a cranky old poetry machine
tucked away in the back of my head.
It hasn’t been running well, of late,
only firing up in short, infrequent bursts
as a last-resort grasp at clarity
when emotions have become too tangled.
It has suffered from disuse,
its metaphors jammed,
flow revving unevenly in halting, coughing word-bursts.
Today I’m pulling it from the shed and
gently blowing off the dust.
I’ll gingerly test each lever and pulley,
searching for semblance of rhythm and rhyme,
replacing spark plugs of...

Summer Solstice
I sip my coffee slowly
As I’m watching the waves crash
Here on a picnic bench, out by the beach
With eggs and hash
Got up before my wife
I left her sleeping in our bed
I’m doing what I love
Walking the streets, clearing my head
I made it to my breakfast stop
Before they opened up
They quickly made my order
My name scribbled on a cup
I decided to not wake her
She is usually by my side
But not today, woke up afraid
All these questions cloud my mind
Did I reach my full potential?
Did I...
