When a Guy Calls you Brother

Yes guys do tend to always be on guard around other guys. We don't know if it's instinct or something that we learn while growing up around other guys. But to find a guy friend that him and you elevate each other to the level of brother, which is a sacred spot. Tight work

Yes, it's tried and true when you elevate to that status.

Almost in the category of when you tell someone you love them for the first time.

  I grew up with a brother (deceased), and cousin very close to the same age.  And then obviously all the years in the Army. Then bikerhood, etc....
  The camaraderie and the bonds created are essential to a mature sense of value as not just a man, but as an intrinsic part of a whole.   Just like any sports team, etc.
  Men, and women, do not get stronger by tearing others down.  Because nothing positive increases within them as value.  They get stronger by the company they keep.  That is maturity.  That is strength.  

Here, as writers in DUP, we should see this as a group.  Not a bunch of avatars and screen names.  As one progresses and gets better, hopefully it's motivation for others to look for that inspiration to improve their own abilities too.  
The very sense of a creative writing atmosphere is to promote betterment for all.  Not just a showcase of talent.  Not everyone has the same taste!

Of course you're my brother in here.  We share many of the same ideals and values.  
Respect is built by effort and results.  You've earned mine.

I've been working since I was 8 years old, so that's like 200 years ago.
Much of that time in Broadcasting and then suddenly went rogue and went to work selling lumber for a decent size wholesale company.
 I mention the careers as my first experience with being called Brother was by the union carpenters in my job in television.  These guys were the best at what they did and not an easy lot to manage.
Rough, tough and tumble, hard drinking never sleeping kind of guys.
I was white collar and they were blue.  Somewhere along the way we forged a relationship that went above and beyond budgets and time cards.  It was here, I became a Brother to this men.  An experience I hold near and dear.  They had my back and I there's.  

The postscript to this as I was writing this is the difference between someone calling you Brother and someone using slang and calling you Bro.  It's night and day for me there.  Bro could anyone at any time.  But when you call someone Brother or they do the same to you, that's a kind of intimacy that borders love.  I'll take it and put it in the lock box forever.

I hardly feel it's my place to comment here, except to say - I've noticed that the guys who are willing to express intimacy towards other guys (whether by the term brother or some other way) tend to be the guys who are also not assholes to women. And I appreciate that very much. 😊

Maybe on DUP that is the case.  Our male population is of a more sensitive group.  In real life it's different.  Men bond differently and it certainly gets harder as you get older.  One of my customers is the Metropolitan Opera in the city.  They are fussy as the day is long.  One of the union guys there calls me Brother.  He's in the same union as the guys were in my television job.  We bonded over the
stuff I sell and jokes about drinking beer yet we've never had a beer together.
That day will come ....

Indeed for many guys it takes a common sacrifice to establish a propensity for closeness that would include a term like bro. Serving together, a sport team, employment, at the same location.

Aw, this is really cute to me. :p I love inspired pieces. It is very endearing when guys call each other brother. You can feel the comradery and it just makes me smile when guys I know do that. :) This was really upbeat, I like it a lot.

It takes me off guard when it happens.   It's heartfelt and not a given.  Guys often are afraid to show intimacy to other guys.  So I take it and for that little moment I feel peace with the world.

Men compete. Eons ago, violence reigned. Now much of violence is sublimated. There's competition. Hierarchies. Status.
Paglia points out that the Y chromosome is an addition on to the female XX. The female is nature's default, preference.
To be a man is to be *beyond* nature, the default. Every man must learn to live as an Exile of the Circle of Life, that is composed only of women.
When you find a man who identifies you as brother, that's as good as it gets in No Man's Land, which is where Every Man must learn to exist.
