If the Shoe Fits

We project personal definitions—
mirrored reflections
creating a double-exposure
of truth: 'yours or mine'
'us or them'

We dissect meaning
through filtered programming
convinced what we read
or how we see a thing
determines
what it truly means

In truth
it means nothing of the sort

When it comes to politics
—personal or national—
it's difficult to distinguish
what we believe
from actual truth
so, we assign our own

Until the lions have their day
history is written by the hunter
—
those wielding power

Yet, every hunter dies
eventually, and the lions
whose nature is unchanged
—unlike humans—
have procured a new generation

So, everything
changes in time
That's a guarantee

Patience is a middle name
donned by the just—
those who believe

So, if the shoe fits
by all means, wear it
until the Reaper presents
your departing ticket
and the lions remain

Because despite scheming
and underhanded bias
one can never be certain
another's intent
was personal insult—

Especially when it wasn't
