Uprising
The darkness
You cannot understand
It was meant to snuff out hope
But she walled the halls
Took care of the sick
Ailments
Of the mind
The soul
She cooked their meals
Embodied their mother
The fire
For their every impulse
But she was too kind
Too innocent
To kill
An angel with a living pulse
In this prison
She went out in the cold rain
Late at night
To kill
And flay
The islands game
She cooked the meat
Brewed it in a stew
Fed it to...

Same Tree
Kill each other over our religions
End other lives for what we believe
We have taken men
Hung them right up there
For the color of their skin
Right up in our tree
That tree we carved our names into
Heart with an arrow
Shot clean through
I can't forget him
I can't forget them
I hope you never will
Hate them for what they believe in
Hates me back for the very same
Take these guns onto the fields
Our blood runs onto its leaves
Those leaves that fell so...

Gladiator
Gladiator
Stone blocks and stone temples.
Remains of a darker time.
A darker culture.
But is it really?
Those remains stand still
although proof that even gods can die.
Conflicting emotions perhaps like those
of the forgotten gladiator,
watching now as the lion charges his way
with no choice except to perform and entertain
the sick, vicious crowd of spectators.
And so he fights amid the cheers and the boos.
He fights for his life within the stone blocks and temples
for a life that when...

Bicentennial
I want to be a human,
But you will not agree.
Leave me be and set me free.
Give me the independence which you have...
That is all I ask.
Treat me as an equal;
Am I not one of your people?
Am I just a robot, to be forgot?
Should I just be ignored?
I am not just yours.
I am not my own,
I am your creation.
Give my your debris
And I will build a home and find my nation.
I am immortal, so I must watch you die.
Give me a second thought;
Allow me to cry.
I will survive.

Demagoguery
It's democracy's reluctant leaders
Who give liberty its fighting edge
As well as the contemplative readers
Sifting the rhetorical sortilege
The too proud fascist thinks will make us great
When the wisest among us know full well
That vainglory is the number one trait
Which sends humanity strait into hell.
But we don't see despots leading the charge
Into Armageddon's smoldering pits
Since conservatives may remain at large
If they can just send in the untaught twits,
Leaving the instigators off the hook ...

Book Bans
If there is a god, its name is process.
Even ideation will need supplies
And all of this troubles those who obsess
Far too much about providential eyes.
The meaning is clear. Students need breakfast
And they need lunch and dinner and dessert
If we expect the scholarship to last
Or skill sets to remain fresh and alert...
And that is why the Sergeants of supply
Are more important than the oligarchs
Promoting policy which will deny
School libraries shelving Karl Marx,
Who understood the ways of modern man

The Silent Whip
You never see the leather coils
Or hear their beastly crack
Monday morning’s cutting lash falls
Silent across your back
Whipped from dark until the light
And still we fall in love
Turning dawn into the night
And still we fall in love
Or hear their beastly crack
Monday morning’s cutting lash falls
Silent across your back
Whipped from dark until the light
And still we fall in love

Guilty Xmas
There's a rainbow over Tesco's
it's consumerism's curse
The turkey's on day three
and the sprouts have done their worst
Now I love a bit of tinsel
and I'm partial to a drop
but when the planet's had a skinful
she knows when it's time to stop
There'll soon be New Year and then Easter
Halloween and Valentine
celebrating our excesses
with no thought for things divine
If only God would point a finger
at our greedy way of life
when half the world is starving
he'd say share and share alike
it's consumerism's curse
The turkey's on day three
and the sprouts have done their worst
Now I love a bit of tinsel

A Tsunami for Greta Thunberg
A damp cave shudders
agony of postmodernity.
The ocean must stir
the ecstasy of nomadic bananas?
The wind weighs oysters.
However!
The sunset contrasts
chilled volcanoes.
Despair!
One man stands in the middle
of a brood of needles.
Yes, from garbage needles!

With, my gift 🎁

Been very, bad this

If Santa understood,
Living in the hood!!.

the Hand that makes the lily bloom
It is not the man who has little, but he who desires more,
that is poor."—Lucius Annaeus Seneca
behold the lily in the swamp,
how pure and bright she blooms!
unfettered by stark stench and muck,
great stature she assumes.
her litheness every eye consumes,
queens emulate her pluck;
her elegance stirs brides and grooms
to light their wedding lamp.
