Image for the poem Adonai

Adonai

cannibalistic dreams stain the mind and eat the soul
rotten etymology entices the carnivore within me
who reaches deep to find the words to say and how to say them
flayed alive my spirit yet strives to gain knowledge of the root of all things
through the darkest parts of my thoughts
through the detestable marriage of the obscene

juxtaposed faith and insidious nature
hand in hand they seem joined
through the soul and tethered to the eternal

melancholy sings sweet sorrow
I hear her melody playing just underneath my skin
delicate notes lilting then keening
she is my own heart in tune with my soul
I ache in indigo shades of loneliness

my Adonai sweet Adonai
I wander the badlands bereft
don't let my darkest of desires seduce my spirit
and thusly consume utterly the soul within
