Maya Angelou is one of my veRRy favorite writers, and to me, it seems as if you were--somehow--channeling her, for i can sense her essence, throughout Your poem!  With this one, you remind readers that, just as the caged bird longs for freedom,,,,a trapped / confined spirit cannot soar.....

I had a dog and he died last year. This was sweet and made me think of him. I had him for 10 years and I made the choice to put him down. Even a week out, I couldn't let him suffer. Thanks for sharing. Brings up some memories.
