The Greatest Showman
The greatest showman takes the stage,
with a perfect performance he's selected,
to captivate the crowd,
and ensure that he's elected.
As he stands behind the podium,
with a charismatic charm, he casts
a spell upon the audience;
Oh, the fans that he's amassed!
They stand before him faithfully,
As he drowns them in a sea of lies;
He manipulates them gracefully,
Part of the plan that he's devised.
They gnash their teeth in anger,
as their hearts are filled with hate,
by a man who claims to share their struggle,
but in reality, he can't relate.
Raised with a silver spoon in hand,
He never struggled for a meal;
Yet, he acts like he can understand
What the common man can feel.
He blames the bloody Democrats
for every problem that we face;
When in reality we're all to blame...
The entire human race.
Such a monumental masquerade,
making a mockery of democracy,
As the ass parades his mass charade
Of horrible hypocrisy.
He plays upon our primal fear,
a fear of losing what we own,
and watches as we fight it out,
while sitting smugly upon his throne.
When the show is finally over,
He stops to bow before the crowd.
A wild applause erupts the room;
He couldn't be more proud.
As the curtains close to prying eyes,
He breaks character behind the scenes.
"Such a brilliant script that I've devised,
to divide them at their the seams."
For we are merely pawns to him,
In this game of politics we play,
Where neither side is set to win
if we can't find a better way.

Author's Note
Just a quick spill to let out some of my frustrations... This one's pretty opinionated, so hopefully I don't ruffle too many feathers with this piece.
Note: this piece is not specifically an attack on Trump, although I'll admit, I don't like the guy, so I'm sure that comes out in this piece. It's moreso a rant about the corruption of our political establishments and the way in which this has divided our nation. It's not just Trump - this system isn't working.

Thanks for your comment... Fivefoottwo. I appreciate you stopping by to express your opinion on the matter. I share the same sentiment, but I haven't lost hope yet :)
-----
Year by year, it stays this way,
Driving us apart.
Day by day, it eats away
At our country, and our hearts.
Divided by our differences,
We fail to see the other's side,
And are quick to get defensive,
as our hearts are filled with pride.
It seems we've blown off course, my friends
From the goodness in our hearts,
For we focus on our differences,
And the wars which we will start.
If only we could compromise,
Just to find some common ground,
Perhaps we'd find a better way
To turn this ship around.

Re: Re. The Greatest Showman
It would take a revolution in thought, on a very large scale to make this kind of change. The traditions that bind us, and our divisive nature have prevented it thus far... One can only hope for a better way. Thank you for sharing your sentiment, Buddha :)

I agree. A massive shift in the paradigm of thought, spirit and action is the only way to make a true revolution.

The ‘system’ needs to be torn down and dismantled as it doesn’t reflect or meet the basic needs of people; universal heath care, and access to a tertiary qualification.

Hey shadow,
Thanks for stopping by again - your continued support is deeply appreciated :)
It's good to see that I am not the only one here who thinks such things. I often keep thoughts such as this to my own self, as to spare myself grievances. I may not know the full solution, but I see a clear problem with the way our political establishments function, and in the divisive way we think. Only with an open heart and mind will we ever begin to overcome the prejudices that are so deeply held by both sides...
I agree with you... Perhaps in a perfect world, heh.

The distraction between the radical right and left detracts them from the true issue at hand; and it's very sad that such a ruse has gained the upper hand. The tenth stanza is the crux of the verse and addressed the culprit perfectly.

I love your passion for this!
And you're right in your Author's Note, it is not just Trump, it's the whole lot of them, and the system (though, even with our current system we are much better off than so many others in other countries).
Our system is currently used to divide, as a way to conquer.
I wish I knew how to fix it, I wish someone, anyone did.
But power creates greed, and I fear that it is true that mere moral men cannot resist the pull to greed and corruption that having power creates.
That is supposed to be the beauty of giving power to the people...even then, it has failed us.
Humans are too selfish and too self-serving, too self-preserving.
And that reminds me of a "Tragedy of the Commons" story:
https://youtu.be/CxC161GvMPc
Overall, this poem makes me realize how much we need to unite and find a way that works for the people.
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes that come to mind when I think of these things:
"All it takes for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing"
"United we stand, divided we fall"
Excellent spill, NB.
Keep fighting. ❤

Thank you for your extremely thoughtful comment, Scribbles :)
I agree with everything you said here... I think all we can do as individuals is try to be better people. A little empathy goes a long way. Just because you don't agree with everything a person says, doesn't mean you won't agree with anything they say. If we focused more on the things we have in common rather than our differences, we'd be much better off.
This two-partied system we tend to shallowly group people into based on their beliefs is a dangerous game, as we have certain prejudices associated with the parties. Once we start to meet a person we make assumptions about who they are based on what they believe. We tend to group people into these neat little categories based on these assumptions. The more we see eachother as entities, rather than individuals, the less capable of empathy we will be, as we've done away with the individual, and now only see the entity.

You're a very wise, thoughtful, compassionate, and beautiful soul and I love reading your poetry and thoughts.
I hate the assumptions associated with the "sides". It's the same as being racist.
It is easy to love someone, once you know their individual story. If we could only ask, "But why? Why did you do that? Why do you think that?"
If only we could communicate with our hearts, instead of our fears.
Love to you, NB. ❤

Very true. This political divide is terrible. We are pitted against each other as enemies, yet we are all part of the same consciousness... it's really sad. If we are not careful, we will destroy ourselves.

I hate too many world leaders and politicians, democracy is just a farce and sham and your poem wowwww it's the most awesome creative sarcasm and criticism of super powers. Rhyming poetics in honest exposure of the hypocrisy, all so admirable, this is a masterpiece.
Can you plz tell me why the u.s president ordered the killing of Iranians and Iraqis who were killing Isis? Isis is the evil right or is it like some Muslims say that Isis and some U.S govt officials are linked with it??? There's another American lady who tells me a lot of the hidden agendas and secrets and she told me what somebmuslims suspected, that the 911 was perpetrated by Americans in power themselves, Jews I dunno who exactly .
Kudos and best wishes.

Zaynab,
First, thank you for stopping by to comment... you deeming this a masterpiece is great flattery, although I'm not entirely convinced it's that great, heh.
Next, I can not explain away the questionable decisions of our 'leader', but I fear that his attack on Iran will lead to an escalation of events... perhaps a war. What I gather from reading the news, is that an Iran-backed militia attacked the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. Our president claims that this most recent attack was to prevent future attacks on US, but I fear this will only escalate tensions to war-like proportions. I fear what the outcome of this will be...
I, too, have heard many conspiracy theories about 911, but many of them seem too ridiculous to be true - nonetheless, there could have been hidden agendas... who knows what happens behind closed doors.
Ironically, old videos have surfaced of Trump warning that Obama would reassure re-election if he went to war with Iran - and here Trump is, amidst his impeachment drama + re-election nearing, essentially starting a war with them. It makes you wonder if there is a hidden agenda here as well.
The worst part of all of this is that Trump is on vacation right now. He's literally sitting in his vacation home on the couch watching TV while he remotely and carelessly escalates foreign tensions and puts all of America on edge. If there were a war in the United States, I assure you, he would be hiding in the safety of his own private bunker, not on the front lines to defend us. He's a coward.

Re: Re. The Greatest Showman
Dear poet, I didn't read about any attack on the U.S embassy. Yet if there was then even then this latest assassination by the U.S wouldn't serve any preventive protective purpose because I see there sentiments run high among the Iraqis and the Shias the world over feel deeply hurt and outraged by the killing of several Iranian and Iraqi men by the American military , for these were brave men who had been eradicating the Isis menace.
Yet comments like yours and other Americans and westerners who bravely condemned the thoughtless reckless assassination which could only escalate violence, are a balm and I hope there is no more violence on both sides. Why couldn't the u.s govt attack the military equipment and weapons instead, why couldn't peaceful means be used, sending drones to blast people is really cruel because I didn't find any killings OF Americans done by the men killed in Iraq and Iran by the U.S.
I do not rejoice when anyone is killed, be he Muslim, American , or whoever.
Peace.

go forth & unapologetically ruffle feathers!
i am not on that side of the pond and therefore not intimately affected by the apricot hellbeast in the oval office but i do appreciate your candor and the eloquence with which you've expressed your frustration with a failing system.
the latter, i think, is relatable regardless of where one is in the world... the deep socioeconomic divisions used as a pawn to further divide, the threat of invisible insurgents...
it seems to be the global meal of the day & sheep feast.

Right on! It has long been the societal game to divide us on race, creed, gender, anything but the issues that are truly salient to our governance. Trump is indeed a symptom of the grievous imbalances that existed prior to his ascendancy. There is a nice counterpoint in the almost sing song syllabic rhyme to the gravitas of the subject matter. Good technique and a fine write. 💖
