Waiting
Come to me so that I may be free
Free of your captors that hinder me
Why must you be so damn evasive
Let me give birth in a perfect oasis
You are my only food for thought
Without you I do this for naught
All my creativeness is on hold
Just cycling through my mind until told
Inspiration is a thief that holds the key to my mind
I’m just juggling the words that I’m desperate to find
My canvas is blank and my pen is dry
My mind’s an open book awaiting satisfaction to fly
I need your influence
I need you to guide
Quit being a nuisance
Stop playing on my pride
I have thirty poems to write and I expect that to happen
So just get off your ass and get me an aspirin
So many ideas and thoughts are just flooding my brain
The thought of writer’s block now is just absolutely insane
I got one poem down
That leaves you and twenty-eight more
This is the fellowship of poems its too early to clown
So drop down from the stars cause this oath I swore
Thirty poems in thirty days
That’s the way that April plays
Dirty by the dozen
March was madness inside her coven
My mind is well-rested and ready to obey
So where the hell is my inspiration on this second day
Waiting

On the Subject of Apathy
Something crawls inside; burrowing,
nesting, laying eggs.
Incubation begins: growing things
one rarely speaks of.
Gestation takes time. Little veins,
filled with doubt, illuminate
worm like patterns: crimson brilliance,
now faded and dull.
Claws thrash through
gossamer integument, hatching uncertainty.
It consumes the psyche, eating emotions:
leaving behind a void.

To learn by heart
The instinctive muscle memory,
It's calm focused and fluid motion.
Instilled, refined and composed of energy,
Translating passion by its commited devotion.
Giving rise peace over turmoil, strength over loss,
A bedrock to quick sand, a place on which to stand.
Forming instinctive motion from a mind and its corse,
Spanning the disparate connectedness of it all.
Is that how we live to form a fluid peace and it's force,
Answering our call in the oneness of life's sprawl.

The recruiter said
come on down
economy’s cheaper
abundance of work
plenty good living
In this Texas town
Made the move
found the hype
mostly true
good paying job
large home bought
for a California song
near everything sought
‘cept a few thing are wrong
It’s hotter than hell
half of the year
humidity thick
as an elephant’s rear
If vegetable gardening
best be growing potatoes
else the Sun will cook you
some fried green tomatoes
Hurricanes t’was said
rarely reached the vicinity
In sixteen years
been through two such rarities
so-called hundred-year-storms
time to change that proximity
flood waters rise
high winds fell trees
over one hundred lives lost
In a horrible freeze
yet the powers-that-be
all arm-chair denialists
urge disbelief
In climate change fallacies
If Michelin rated states by weather
our’s would merit, dare I say
one single lone star
nothing better

Headed a Grudging I will go
Headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go,
with a stout heart and an axe strong
to settles scores and right the wrong
over hills and through the dales
over the peaks and through the trails
headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go,
with a song and a sturdy shield
to travel afar and afield
across the chasms and past the road
across field and past the abode
headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go,
with certain feet and a sure brow
this is the oath I now avow
to suffer no insult or slight
to slay all foe within my sight
headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go,
with armour of mail and a rune
armed for war and served by a tune
away from hearth and on to shore
away from home and as before
headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go,
headed a Grudging I will go.

FLOWERS / SOURGRASS
Beauty queen farmer
Aristocratic nose
Hands in the dirt
Fingering what grows
Velvet buds of hounds tongue
Let them open up
Pour the taste of cucumber
Into your glassy cup
And there’s calochortus tolmiei
Known as pussy’s ears
White and purple fur display
The morning dew like tears
Speaking of that’s what you’ll cry
From biting this one’s neck
A prickly and bracing spurt
Sourgrass- what the heck?!

Satellite
Part I: Anatomy of a Cycle
i.
Circular—
evolution could be cyclic;
a regularly repeated period
of expansion and contraction:
Eternal Recurrence
of a theme or structural device;
a constant distance
from a centered radius—
an uncomplicated contrast
distinctly dividing the plane
into two solid sectors:
within or without
and that's
what she's all about:
the ebb and flow
Noted since the origin
of recorded history
the largest natural satellite
in the Solar System
relative to the size of its planet
remains to this millennium
a sheer mystery

Did you know we gave you this name?
Your taste
My gods
Soul ferver
Bubbling up from the depths of my ethereal lava lake
An eye roll brought on by this otherworldly event
The event that is slowly eating you slow, slower, slowest..
Slowwwwly marinating my taste receptors in your nectar
A breathy show escapes the portal behind my lips because of your. drop.to. the kneeees. succu-liciousness
Almighty flavor of Christ
Christen my tastebuds now and May we pray deep for amnesia to never erase the bllissedOut sensory Fantasia your very being elicits to us mere mortals

Good Friday
It started with the music.
Driving, gritty bass rhythm,
keening guitar’s wail,
time signature intrigue,
emotion-ripped vocals…
…ear candy for a budding musician.
Then it was the story.
A revolutionary, calling out the status quo,
unwilling to compromise purpose,
a misunderstood martyr,
friends torn by fear and consequences…
…capturing all that is tragic in humanity.
Then it became a ritual.
Becoming more personal with every listen,
every year of experience suffered,
every book, chapter and verse of the full story learned,
every person loved and lost,
every regret accumulated,
and every graceless interpretation discarded.
And still each time,
the thing that moves my heart
to learn and live a better Way…
Always,
first,
it starts with the music.

Mourning In The Morning
It's hard saying good morning when you're mourning
When the storming keeps coming and coming
Wanting to do nothing but stay under covers
In fetal positions as if yearning for mothers
When heartache seems to hover over head
After hearing that another loved one is dead
As you start seeing red in every portrait of life
From being fed up with the turmoil and strife
When your putty knife no longer conceals your holes
From where pain has managed to erode your soul
Striving to be whole is a death defying feat
Gotta remain bold and not fold in defeat

We don’t need Mars
It’s already happening
humanity is sleeping
our planet is weeping
why can’t we see
we’ve been granted
the gift of humanity
and speech our own
unique ability
It’s what sets us apart
yet, humans are blind
selfish and unkind
trees disappearing
animals going extinct
dog days ahead
apocalyptic visions
billboards everywhere
the size of dumbo ears
for all to listen for all to hear
nitrogen oxides carbon monoxide
overload, I may be under the influence
but still, I can’t make this stuff up
teleprompters dictating
our end 24/7 dread on a loop
we are all doomed.

Your Poison
The sweetest of poisons trickles from your lips
With hardly a nugget of the truth hanging upon its tip
With a wisp of a word or a quick turn of phrase
You can decimate those around you in the quickest of ways
Where does it all fit and when did you change
Mutating from your youth to something foul and strange
Twisted in your mind and deep within your heart
From the depths where this came from when did it all start
To what do we owe the honor of being trampled upon
Have you noticed your circle or how it’s nearly gone?
No, how could you with your head stuck up into thin air
Acting like you’re untouchable with hardly a care

Awaken
Why the pale face
Of sickening stone?
Every inch of skin
Gowned in a winter cape
As frosty as the rising midnight sun
She hibernates
In caves
She sleeps
On gravel
The ghostly sockets
The dusty brow
And silver strands
They all remain
Reminiscent of her mood
Ranging from charcoal to lighter grays
A turbulence that sways
Never quite changing
Just different shades
For spring, I pray
To awaken the rosy cheeks
We know they’ll bloom someday
Hug her, in summer robes
Look her in the eyes
And tell her she is home
Her pale face is done
Awaken

THIRD CALLING
Along the aftermath of nineteen wrongs
survival shifts from loss to quiet gain
wherein the moon looks down upon the songs
which line the pilgrim’s way for staying sane
The daughter of our Mother Earth flies free
she dances on the mountains, mouthing grace
which multiplies to sounds of land and sea
by every language known in time and space
And soon the dance becomes a whirling stream
a vortex lifting high our earthly home
as doubtful souls, transfixed, reduce the scene
to finding clever answers in a koan
Is not the Earth sufficient for our cry
as hurting voices press the leaden sky?
