Poetry Contest

Christmas has come. How did it feel?
Christmas inspires powerful emotions, whether positive or negative. Whichever, they are an intensity of emotions that is rare for any other day in the year.

Rules:
          Write a short poem that
          expresses the feelings you
          felt or witnessed around
          Christmas-time. [The
          deadline is short to get
          rawer emotions.]

35 word limit. [Try not to
          detail what happened as
          much as how it felt.]

          One poem per poet

Coveter's Christmas

I woke.

Swallowed the psyche. I woke again
in the body of a holly drupe
and twined to reef.

I fell
out of leavened dough sugar fists
to the black pit of earther
that branched in the conifer-swirled shoots from grand maternity of the siblings I have in you.

Drape nylon tunic mesh
slipped through to the flickered contour
by the high beam ruffling off the ivory bowl palm.

There a vermilion scattered wings of speckling red mercury.

Nylon vortexed into black fervor
rose lone from fans of venders in the late Eve,
through which motors sped
until buffeted by grainy home-way.

I slept,
alive phased through incandescents
unto a puff of all wanters' arms.

the holy day was quiet
but my mind raced with anxiety
then I entered these sacred halls
our Saviour was found here
waiting among the poets
talking through their poetry
at last, my mind rested ✨

Warrior

I heard raucous laughter
through crumpled paper,
unwrapped in joy
of all made cheer

it meant more to me
than turkey and tinsel—
little Viking ships
sailing the new year.

revelation

the revelation

it does not necessarily come
from waiting for bees with genius ideas
to give you a seed
to flower out.

sick vines grow as well.

no,
it comes from the act of writing,
writhing,
of speaking your mind,
of telling.
climbing.

No miracle of pollination.
Just sun
and time
and behavior activation.

Skill and motivation.
Not patiently waiting
for the words to come
but etching in leafy cursive
the missives of
your brain.

Christmas 2018

Peace and joy.
Love and laughter.
Warmth in my stomach
Like sitting in front of
The fireplace with my
Full heart and realizing
This is when my life
Is like a blessing.

Next Christmas

As I take down the tree
I contemplate and ask
While packing away the ornaments,
 "Was this Christmas my last?"

For nearly ever Yuletide
That has come to pass
There's at least one person
I've loved that's passed

And maybe next year
Underneath the Christmas tree
There will be no reason
To leave a gift for me
🎁

Love Divine on Christmas

More so,
Than the ornate mantel
over the roaring fireplace.

Even more so,
than unwrapping gifts
before your open hearth -

was that divine gleam
within your eye,
I love you for it.

In The Season of Giving

In the season of giving,
I experienced loss,
But in it I learned to appreciate what I have,
The time given to me,
And going forward how I will live and give.

Underskin

Emptiness held my mind and soul captive
In a whirlwind of bitter disappointment and sorrow
The Christmas cheer brought no warmth to my heart
The cracks quickly formed on my armor
Until the dam burst.
