The Sapphire Sea -with adagio
The sea draws back her tide.
As the fire gold sun
descends on your amethyst eyes.
You were the ebb.
Always receding into oblivion.
I was the flow,
immersed in your parallel world.
Opposites attracting a twilight cotillion.
Silencing typhoons among opinions.
Where the horizon meets the sapphire sea
beneath a turquoise sky.
In dreams of obsidian antiquity
As the fire gold sun
descends on your amethyst eyes.
You were the ebb.
Always receding into oblivion.
I was the flow,
immersed in your parallel world.
Opposites attracting a twilight cotillion.
Silencing typhoons among opinions.
Where the horizon meets the sapphire sea
beneath a turquoise sky.
In dreams of obsidian antiquity

Tides
tides rolling in
then again leaving
splashing and crashing
endlessly weaving
in and around
over and under
with liquid sound -
awestruck in wonder
I am amazed
by all the power
relentless, unending
hour after hour
day after day
year after year
Moon and the Earth
shedding a tear
with tides rolling in
always in motion
coming and going -
life by the ocean
with liquid sound
awestruck in wonder
of all around
over and under...

Nautical Sluice
Whittled, titillated,
demonstrative accolades.
Breaking spades in schools,
flash frying the batter,
lick it faster, see the saw horse whinny.
Double whammy the paddle,
"into the bottle scuttlebutt"
and swim a little harder!
The corporeal ladder
the 'gone but never forgotten,'
I thought then, begat severed head.
Uncle Slaughter, missing driver,
somewhere it shines 'tween hammerhead
spikes, the seaweed soiree,
and muddied sky slice.

Tropic Girl
Tropic Girl
Blue sky smile on silver eyelids
Bright as a Caribbean sun
Over wild kelp forest
Of Montego Bay tresses
With sail shadows on turquoise water
Dancing on the sunshine
Of crescent lipstick upturned
In welcome to treasures unknown
But open to curiosity of my gaze
Taken as golden Miami entreaties
Looking toward the Bahamas
In her musing eyes
Coy turned into her demure nets
Cast down into
The glint of her ocean crests
Blue sky smile on silver eyelids
Bright as a Caribbean sun
Over wild kelp forest
Of Montego Bay tresses

Pain as Deep
Hands of seared flesh
Clinging to my chest
Salt and sea
Blowing gusts of pain
You think me evil
You think me wicked
I do this all for you
A hundred years, it’s been
So long, and yet again
I burn from the passion
Gallows, I’m facing, press in
A hundred years, I’ve come
Through every inch of home
My brothers are dead and gone
Search this earth alone, on and on
A hundred years, I’ve still held on
With every breath I get closer
With every crest I sink lower
Just dreams to place asunder
As...
Clinging to my chest
Salt and sea
Blowing gusts of pain

POUNDING LINGERS
Just as the ocean’s
mighty distant roar
is heard for miles
inland from the shore,
the beating of drums
from the mountain tops
is carried on the breeze
until it stops
In the space where
its’ pounding lingers,
repeats itself upon
moving fingers
of one who’s waiting
enclosed by four walls,
being each wave as
it rises and falls.

A Sirens Silent Harp
Wassailing
Whilst sailing
The deep blue sea
Virgin foam
Frothing over shale
As broken shells
Make music
Swishing, and swashing
Constantly washing
Sea-cleansed fossilised pebbles
Dashed
Driftwood
Bleached
Then beached
As a choir of seagulls
Shriek in unison
With the tides
As sirens wassail, and drink
Serenade
The soft sea froth, and foam
With silt, and sand
But no clay to loam
No mould for the harp

Refugesea
I tried to imagine
What it was like
To be
A refugee at sea
Floating along
Swamped with waves
Better to drown?
Than go home...Craving
For a safe haven
I spent six months
In the Merchant Navy
Stood aboard
A 350 tonne Coaster
Looking at
The swirling gravy
As i often used to think
I can't swim
I can sink
Sometimes
Biting my lip
With fear
As severe storms
Were drawing near
Poseidens' rage
Lurking
Eyeing the lifeboat
In dismay
The inevitable
Just a simple delay...

Lions Upon The Sea
Lions Upon The Sea
I dreamed a dream of silver Sealions
Glistening under a charcoal downbeat sky (jq)
The seas surged, in a headstrong wind
As the Sealions began to fly (jdb)
Higher, and higher, til they became as one
With the clouds in the sky (jq)
Then one let out, an enormous bellow
"How come my clouds, are never yellow?" (jdb)
"I don't know!" said one
"But beware of yellow snow!" (jq)
"Don't you realise, and don't you know?"
"That it is us, that makes this yellow snow!"
They decided to leave the 'charcoal downbeat sky'...

Broken Shells
There's something melancholy about seashells
I find them in many places so far from the sea
In those old jelly candles at thrift stores
Or the cloudy ones that burn the shells when lit
Bowls of shells from someone elses vacations
Big ones that are broken and dusty
Their pinks and purples long faded away
The spiky comb ones with only nubs left
It's strange to me that we don't view them like bones
Beautiful mural remains of creatures called mollusks
They're such beautiful unpraised little things
Taken far away and left to gather dust
I find them in many places so far from the sea
In those old jelly candles at thrift stores
Or the cloudy ones that burn the shells when lit
Bowls of shells from someone elses vacations
Big ones that are broken and dusty
Their pinks and purples long faded away
The spiky comb ones with only nubs left

Drift
Confusing
abusive
your memory's curved
and it turns into
a useless disadvantage
Shots fired from miles away
but the impact hits
in the guest bedroom.
Such a fool for the things
we can't let go of
And the boat rocks
but our hearts drift away
until we sink

and it turns into
