The Collector
1.
Unusual, in the distance, stillness
beneath a hanging
wispy algae as it waves
a flag. The pelican
whittled down
to its base form. Stark, stranded, smooth-
an orange beak
like a bird of paradise and I sought heaven
in your duplicity, in your triplicity,
in your multitudes, a million
lights emerge
as static on the sea, I did not see it.
I believe wishes come
2.
from the wing bone. Funny,
life is not a stranger, but death is....

Rabat is a black pearl
Rabat is a black pearl
Of cellophanic rainbow
Gazing upon waves that curl
And lick a shore little known.
Gibraltar is the dock
Where it steadfast moors –
Enjoying sailboats that flock
The Mediterranean course
Yet Barbary lions live
Not far, in the Rif Mountains –
Golden, assertive –
Their kasbah amid the grass.

popcorn clouds
sunlight glinting on the ocean
as a ship glides by
popcorn clouds in quiet motion
in the morning sky
joggers, doggers, people walking,
under flying geese,
on their phones forever talking
it never seems to cease
blah blah blah we're separated
from enjoying this
place and moment here created -
early morning's bliss
sunlight bouncing on the ocean
reflecting all around,
on a ship in quiet motion
here where I am found
drinking tea while I'm observing
what there is to see
boomeranging...

a somewhat fishy occurrence
"Consider the subtleness of the sea; how its most dreaded creatures glide under water, unapparent for the most part, and treacherously hidden beneath the loveliest tints of azure..... Consider all this; and then turn to this green, gentle, and most docile earth; consider them both, the sea and the land; and do you not find a strange analogy to something in yourself?"

Cascading
the relentless
wave-lipped suck
of seawater,
seeking surprises ...

Ocean Waters
Morning chill brings about the
trout on the ocean waters.
Lift the anchor from the sea,
head out to find fish to eat.
Foggy mist covers the sky,
lending to the eerie feeling that
October can give.
Windy currents drift back and
forth rocking the craft as it
proceeds further out.
Fishing lines go deep into the
blue waters with hopes of hooking
a tasty thing.
Worms on the lines provide
just enough temptation to lure
that thing I'll be cooking.
Raking in fish left and right,
feeling good for a while.

HIDDEN PARADISE BEACH ('X' Marks the Spot') (original 1st draft) (Hidden Paradise Beach, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)
hi sea
water love
comes right up
greeting me
wave face
rises bends and breaks
in all it s blue green purity
as it curves and pitches
like a thick wet whale tongue s
fluid glass song s
sudden powerful
whumppphhhh
as it rushes up
onto shallow sloped shoreline s
receptive sandy beach s
tranquil tropic heart beat s
transcendent tidal seam
soaking sand fizzingly
all around my legs
and open spirit s being
in it s exhuberant friendly gesture
to greet embrace and kiss
my earthbound...

With Time
Waves surge forward
As the islet slowly erodes in the sea
Swallowed into its depths
Until it can no longer crest
To catch a breath
Submerged and interred in the seabed
Lost in a hole of nothingness
With the flowing hourglass

By the Salish Sea
Vancouver Island in the morning
across the Salish Sea
in the haze of summer's dawning
as I'm drinking tea
contemplating what's before me -
a ship goes sailing by,
gulls are screeching more and more the
unanswered question why
the noise, do they see something
that I cannot see
perhaps an eagle, still there's nothing
visible to me
except the water lap lap lapping
gently on the shore
something somewhere must have happened
always there us more
going on in what's surrounding
than anyone...

Eyes of The Baltic
In the hush of a Baltic night
A grim forecast this blight
it stands so tall
A shadowy figure within the hall
Its eyes, unseen, burn with a glare
A presence felt, an icy stare
Wind howls through ancient trees
Carrying whispers on ghostly breeze
The moon, a pallid, distant light,
Struggles to pierce the endless night
Silent footsteps, echoing faint,
Whispering fears that words can’t paint
An aura thick with dread and gloom,
A phantom lurking in the room...

Seaside skies
One sunny day
I was smiling
Smelling the flower breeze
The sea and earth
Enjoying nature
All of mother nature’s worth
As the tides rolled in
Lapping beneath
Passing clouds
And the misty rainbow
Delights of the new days rebirth
I was smiling

when it rains
mixed feelings
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning
to dance in the rain.”—Vivian Greene
when it rains, i have mixed feelings
of the deluge i must face,
for some showers leave me reeling,
and some raindrops ruin my base.
when it rains a rainbow harvest,
all my life soars on a cloud;
but the rains that hit me hardest
are the ones that hope enshroud.
when it rains harsh disillusion,
stirring dregs long put to sleep,
earth and heav’n weigh my confusion ...
