Snowflakes

It’s snowing again
And you’re on my mind

The conversation we had
In the car comparing people
To snowflakes
Each unique
Brilliant and beautiful

I watched your beautiful eyes twinkle
Sat in rapt attention
And experienced winter
Through your eyes

You live in the land
Of the sun
Snow has never been
In your world

Watching your delight
As each flake
Landed on your tongue
While you walked around
The parking lot
Tongue out and laughing
Warmed me in more ways
Than you could ever know

You made your first
Snowball and promptly
Threw it at me
Your laughter contagious
Never mind that I hate
Having snow lobbed in my face

You had to make a snow angel
Spreading your wings
Flying there
On your back
Without the winter coat
I said you would need
And you insisted that you didn’t
Because Northerners are soft

My soul soared
As I watched your delight
My Northern heart softened
By every ounce of your joy
And the experience of you

You’re back in the sun
And I’m watching snowflakes
Lost in my memories
Of us

My heart warmed by thoughts
Of your return
And the gift of you
