Rain
Rain oozed down the windshield.
Like ants, people scampering about
their unexamined lives, dodging raindrops.
The sky and her liquid laugh.
Earth's in charge here,
although some ego's would beg to differ.
Rain is not selective,
it pours down on the lives of everyone,
regardless of your status.
Whenever and wherever it wants.
Leaving puddles of its existence.
So go get wet.
Get soaked.
Feel alive.
The inventor of the umbrella,
never felt free inside.
Like ants, people scampering about
their unexamined lives, dodging raindrops.
The sky and her liquid laugh.
Earth's in charge here,
although some ego's would beg to differ.
Rain is not selective,
it pours down on the lives of everyone,
regardless of your status.
Whenever and wherever it wants.
Leaving puddles of its existence.
So go get wet.
Get soaked.
Feel alive.
The inventor of the umbrella,
never felt free inside.

I don't know where I came up with " liquid laugh". I do feel like the rain is laughing at me, or maybe with me.....when I get drenched! Thank you for checking out.

I enjoyed this one. I like the visual of people scampering about. I can see a city street with people caught in a sudden rainstorm trying to stay dry. You are right that there is something freeing about playing in the rain.

The poem is from my actual day. I was sitting in my car as the rain oozed down the windshield, I was watched people running around trying to stay dry as if they would melt, lol. My mom always tried to get me to use an umbrella, haha - NEVER

So much depth in this one! I'm one to dance in the rain & sit on the porch with coffee to watch the storm battering the world. Loved the message in this one!

I love the sound of that.
Rain nourishes the earth, why can't it nourish us.
Trying to talk myself out of the sometimes gloom, lol.

The inventor of the umbrella,
never felt free inside.
Thats good expression, when this umbrella interferes in such a lovely weather, it really makes it even too much wet ..
Fine poetry with a light touch of romanticism and ballad..

Yes indeed & as the late great ex alcoholic English soccer star Jimmy Greaves once said about his struggles in life... "Sure, it's raining on me but then, it's raining on every other bugger as well!"
I always loved that line whenever I was feeling sorry for myself. Your great poem just reminded me of this, that's all. 😊
