Rain Poems
#rain
Poetry about rain, an ingenuity of the natural world. Beautiful nature poems about how rain nourishes the earth and provides life. Also poems about the power of rain, and how too much of it can negatively impact our lives.
Night Storm (Raindrops)
Reflections in bright and
loud conversations
laughter and joy overheard
near that crackling green table,
carefree in the moment
tossing away their makeup
and inhibitions,
seducing
but still dancing like ladies,
now late, the full moon
growing smooth
the early morning creaks,
she laid looking at me silently.

rainy days
My balcony has become
a safe haven
for birds
pot plants
and a rambunctious toddler
It's been raining
like the heavens
want to punish the earth
and wash away
everything that's wrong
with the world
We've been trapped
in our four walled structures
huddled up
seeking warmth and entertainment
I drink tea like a tonic
against the cold
while my son plays
in the sheltered rain
watches the birds
and picks flowers
better left on the plants
Inside he pours...

Rain
My love,
I won’t
Sip you as champagne;
I’ll breathe you in
As petrichor,
And dance within your rain.

Petrichor
Bring me your rain—
cascading, cooling, cleansing
moisture from heaven.
I'm burnt, and tired
of putting out fires.
Burnished embers surround,
parched and lifeless
in the barrenness.
Everything good
has been consumed by flames.
I need hope; an oasis;
sweet relief.
Send your clouds
to weep on the land.
Fresh rain of life;
purifying showers.

Impatient Dreams
The robins are singing the rain song and I see threatening clouds coming in from the west.
Hopefully they bring rain drops to garden earth.
It’s early evening as the rain begins to fall.
I hear traffic’s wet commute driving down the road.
The temperature drops as sheets of rain whip across the open field.
It doesn’t last long and the clouds begin to lighten to make way for the setting sun.
I draw an invisible line across my psyche daring my intuition.
My inhibitions silently drain from my subconscious.
I take care not to fall...

rainaissance
New beginnings are often disguised
as painful endings.”—Lao Tzu
not oft do i drink rain,
or thunder chew;
else, might i oft complain
of xanadu.
its treasures sting my face
the livelong day,
though fail i to embrace
its consommé.
not oft do i waste tears
on turbid seas,
or tangle with the heirs
of socrates;
else, might i oft disdain
life lessons learnt,
pouring expired champagne
on passions burnt.
not oft do i sharp rocks
pause to embrace,
a vernal equinox
make...

Rain
It’s been a while
I miss the rain
I miss how it made me feel
The joy in the unknown
The hurt that follows
The sickness coming after
I miss the way it sounds
The way it looks
The way it feels
The way it fought my fire
I miss the rain
I miss how it made me feel
The joy in the unknown
The hurt that follows
The sickness coming after
I miss the way it sounds
The way it looks
The way it feels
The way it fought my fire

Rainstorm (NaPoWriMo 2022 #6)
Pounding beat of fists
ongoing onto rooftops,
drumming down drops,
slamming downwards,
with force and fury
shouting out impacts
as a chorus of collisions,
reiterated
over and over
repeating
the drone of thuds
drowning out
everything else,
except
the accompanying
wind,
roaring as companion
buffeting sideways,
all eager to end
the noisome act
of orgasmic nature
and finish,
leaving only cathartic silence
and water.

Tempests’ Temptation

Tempests’ Temptation
During the last past monsoon
I remember telling the indoor Cat
(who I let outside for 2 to 3 hrs per day)
“ I’ll let You out when I get home;
this morning, I must write
a poem. “
I love writing during rain &
prefer the clap of thunder nearby
as opposed to the bolts of light.
I thought about getting struck
but shrugged it off as a tiny ado.
Why am I tempted to write
during wet williwaws?
I think, maybe it tempers
my emotions with balance ...

Are Raindrops Ever Lonely?
Surely raindrops are never lonely,
Being that they always travel with family and friends
Though perhaps they lose their personality
As their droppiness merges
Into a puddle in the grass
Surely raindrops are never sad
One can't imagine they ponder much on
Death and taxes and unjust war
(If there were such thing as a just war)
Though they probably fight to breathe
Being all squished together
In their little puddle in the grass
Do raindrops notice when they're dying? --
When the sun warms the earth

A Shift
You can't get out of a hole by digging
Do as the worms do and wiggle your way out
Forget about the birds, bare your ugliness in the rain
It's more fun that way
