‘Caged’: A Haiku
As free as a bird
fancied trapped in a cage with
the door wide open.

"Never even know we have the key"... reminds me of the Eagles... nicely done...

This sparked an ancient memory for me of a poem I wrote long. Long ago...
"Desire To Fly"
There was a parrot loose in a tree
Escaped from his cage and now he's free
Free to soar anywhere in the blue sky
How I've always wished that I too could fly
Envy the parrot and all the birds
For their songs are sweeter than words
Better than any I could ever write
My songs also want to escape into flight
It's a shame that his feathers were furled
And the rainbow he casts on the world
Caged and covered, no wonder he flew
From the ground I dream of his point of view

Very true, Rachelle - we are our own jailors until we realize we hold the key.

Wonderfully incisive observation. It reminds me of a line from an Eagle's song, "Already Gone;"
"So oftentimes it happens
that we live our lives in chains
and we never even know
we have the key."
I'm going over to check my cage door...damn! sure enough it's wide open😁
Bravissima!

The bars become ingrained in the heart, we miss seeing open doors.
Great write.

Very profound. The invisible barriers we place upon ourselves, huh? I personally do it all the time. Fantastic write! 😊

hello Rachelle I'm sorry i miss this
it could certainly be me this haiku
I always feel there is a perimeter around me
keeping me from going any further
I've made a break for it a couple times though...

Amazing insight and haiku.
I broke free from my cage 2/2/2020. I finally had enough of holding myself back. I don’t even recognize the woman who used to be trapped there.
