Old Friend
Old Friend
Hello old friend it’s been a while since we danced,
Since you played the pied piper and I followed entranced,
It’s been a while since you pulsed your dark beat in my veins,
Since you whispered instructions, since you pulled on the reigns.
Your seduction, I’ll admit, it’s hard to decline,
You were electricity in my soul, you were fire in my mind.
But I remember the hurt, the pain and the loss,
Your friendship burns, I’m still paying the cost.
And that’s not to say that we didn’t get along,
Truth be told, part of me died when I knew you were gone,
And though our dance was a thing to behold,
We were Icarus, too high, We were Loki, too bold.
We waltzed in step, we piroutted in time,
The drunken fool with his god of wine,
So goodbye old friend, I must bid you adieu,
to invite you back now would be to kill me too.

When I read it this morning, I wasn’t able to watch the video. Loved the video - creepy and mysterious (right up my alley)

This is really tight dude, a final farewell to a life hindrance. There a a great many that can't say good bye to their old destructive friends. That music coupled with your voicing the piece and the flow all works together, to tight

I once was a part of a drinking gang in Waikiki. Three men, one woman. We would awaken hungover in the morning and scatter, looking for enough cash to get that first bottle of rotgut wine which cost all of $1.77 in those days. Thunderbird.
Ann finally went into treatment, got sober, and we lost touch with each other. I got sober through AA. Tim, likewise, showed up at my door with eight clean and sober years. Poor Rick died on the beach in Maui.
Lovely composition. Sincerely.

Alas, this "Old Friend" seems to call at every door doesn't it... Well done on finding sobriety.... a tough but necessary journey for some of us.... Thanks for listening and commenting, your words are very encouraging.

My best friend died coming up on 6 years ago from liver cirrhosis due to alcoholism, he was only 37 years old. It was unreal at first, that the world just goes on without him.
Your writing has real heart and I love the musical productions.

Dear BITS,
Excellent write. I definitely appreciate the friendship lost here and I identify with the dance. Well done you for letting it go!

Why thank you. That's very nice of you to say. Thank you for listening to my efforts. I'm always touched that people take the time. I will return the compliment on my next sit down!
