Gremlins

Gremlins

Ego assassins are in my head,
Mining my dreams, hoping to embed
those pernicious thoughts that can ruin a mind,
Darken the love, kill the kind.

Those gremlins think they are King of the Hill,
forcing me down to one knee, back to the bottle and pill,
Are these nostalgia demons here to stay?
Crippling my efforts, muting my say?

I hear you calling me those names so vicious,
Fat useless kid, poetry princess,
It’s hard to dampen the kill-joys within,
Where does one start? How to begin?

But on one knee is not dead, you have left me in the fight,
You should have finished the job, extinguished my light,
Coz I’ll get back to my feet and I will hunt you down,
I will rip out your heart,
I will stand my ground.

Ego assassins are slowly leaving my brain,
They easily run wild, but thankfully, can be tamed.
