Beneath the Canvas
Tell me if you feel it too
Tell me how to paint you
Searching for the pull
Blending lure and allure
Each brushstroke
Colored vein of paint
Creative signals to soak
Vessels of watercolor stains
Multicolor shades
Each kaleidoscope crusade
Swimming with splash
Universal drips that contrast
Flowing from the secret
Spark of the heart
Our resin creation
Adulteress collaboration
Underneath the ripples
Of dried colored skin
Searching for our pulse

Author's Note
Thinking about art and the connection artists have with their paintings. Each one a new creation of devotion. I love Frida Kahlo's work. There must be love in it to create such moving pieces of art. I can't paint but I can imagine:)

The first four lines hooked me. I devoured the rest.
You've got a good eye for writing. That is your painting skills.

Thank you for saying so. Truly:)
I do love art. The dedication of it. Just inspired me
to write about it.
On a lighter note I have tried painting. Okay - I did an
Art & Vino class/bday party. We were all supposed to paint a cross.
Had too much to drink and intersected the cross too high and
turned it into a sword. Ughhh. Turned a symbol of piece into a murder weapon. But I was tipsy proud. LOL
Thanks for the comment and stopping by
RL too!!!

Well, you know I was gonna love this !!
There's is a special bond between artist and painting. Often it's the thinking part about what's the next move, especially when doing abstraction....
Really dig this

Ive been thinking, lately, about the reflective nature of language,
in that it has the ability to reflect upon the nature of itself.
I feel like you have taken this to another level,
in that, you are using this reflective nature to really delve into the process of art/painting.
I think that is extremely fascinating.
Like LDF's recent book "MetaPoetics"...
Things like this are so fascinating.
You wrote this really well, with a cool flow and potent internal rhyme,
beautifully detailing what is completely a realm of spirit and intellect... and other variables and factors...
in that it has the ability to reflect upon the nature of itself.

Hi Cipher:)
I also totally got inspired by one of the lines in one of your awesome poems. Remember this
The line of your spine
How I commented on the back being a flesh canvas.
Welp - this kinda bloomed from that so thank you for
writing cool stuff:)
I like the infusion of ourselves into
our art. Whatever that may be.
Thanks for the RL and comment!!!

Hey Relic
I imagine that is exactly what it is. It must be hard to do. With writing you can always erase or edit. With painting it seems more permanent don't you think. It being the colors you see and paint.
For me - it would be hard to change course.

Made me think of "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." - Michelangelo.
However, your poem conveyed the romance between canvas and artist as they develop the relationship to make art.

Best comment ever. You just name dropped Michelangelo with something I wrote:)))
Made my year with this comment Leo!!!!
Art (whatever avenue you choose) can be taught but sometimes it is just magic don't ya think. For me it's writing.
That intuition with writing and choosing words.
When a word looks okay on paper but for some reason
it just doesn't feel right and you end up editing.
Thank you so much for the comment amigo

Dear A,
I would never have considered the deep connection between the artist and their work until I began this process of poetry writing. It’s like bloodletting with each submission. Your poem tends to that exercise and the love, sometimes hate, but mostly love that can be divined each time a piece of creativity is shared with the world. Awesome and insightful write. H🌷

Hi H!!
I totally agree. We have to love it in order to sit down daily and write.
I do tend to feel a bit claustrophobic when I go too long without writing.
Just doesn't feel right.
And then there are times I need a break. I also like to enjoy life off the page as well. It's where I get a lot of my inspiration to write - so it is kinda like a cycle for me:)
Thanks for the RL and comment!!

Hi Adel
You say you're not an artist, that's a joke right?, you just painted watercoloured masterpiece of words.
You paint your canvas in delicious descriptions demanding attention.
From reading that poem I assumed you were artist of paint as well as an artist of words.
You have a gift of a wordsmith
Love reading your poems

😁,, you know I think one of the greatest gifts you can give people for free is to make them smile and feel good.
This is what you do to me and for me all the time Adel, I'm always in the better afterwards. Thank you
I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to painting, couldn't draw or paint to save my soul, unless it's house painting, that I can mange.
Like your choice of paradise music 😁

I'm with you there, Adelphina, re: stick people. I can curate one hell of a game of Hangman with my drawing skills, but little else. (Correctly guess the letters to fill in these blanks, or else this stick person I am drawing will dangle! Ohhh nooo! Lol.)
Engaging in no artistic activity other than creating poetry for DUP, i am sometimes envious of artists working in visual mediums, and find myself wondering what it would be like to have a facility in utilizing an art form that could be shown to my friends and family.
Plus, I think it would just be so cool to see something take form like that, a drawing, a painting, a sculpture, an actual artifact, and to be able to say, and not un-proudly, "My fingers did that."

Hi Em:)
I use to play hangman all the time when I was younger.
Now that I really think about it - kinda morbid to teach a kid how to play that. LOL Talk about pressure.
Artistic expression has so many avenues. For now this is my lane so this is where I'm driving. Glad to be here with ya!
Always glad to hear from ya Em.
Hope you are having a great weekend!!!

I'm sorry I missed this one Adelphina it's so beautiful
I was thinking of the first artist when I read this
I was just writing about his artistry us...
I'm a painter too though not as good at expressing myself in paint
I've shared some of my paintings on here in the gallery
you do get attached to them...
they each mean something different
I name mine lol...
great write...

Hi Crimsin:)
I wish I could paint. Maybe I'll take a beginner class later down the line when I have the time. I envy that talent. To sit down with patience and just do your thing. The mixing of colors. The vision. All that stuff. LOL
I would love to see your art. I will be keeping an eye out!!
So inspiring!
