An Afternoon at the Getty
Nestled at the top of a lush green hill
The museum overlooks the ocean, the city and the mountains
Visitors seem to come from around the world
Enjoying the views with it’s beautiful gardens and fountains
With modern architecture all around
I walked through a flowing maze of galleries, rooms and halls
Then I found myself lost in awe and wonder
At the art and paintings that hung reverently from the walls
In dimly lit rooms the ancient manuscripts
Felt like sacred and holy texts encased behind glass shrines
Man in search of illumination…
I could almost feel myself being transported through time
Greek, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and French
I saw paintings from painters I didn’t know of from long ago
There was a Goya here and Rembrandts there
Then in a big room and all by itself, one by Van Gogh
But I was captured by the stained glass
It’s vivid colors imprinted an indelible feeling of adoration
Like tiny cathedrals or chants in mass
The very presence of God had inspired these artistic creations
I left with a new found sense of appreciation
Moved by the work of hands from many centuries in the past
I hope to visit again as well other museums
Enriched with culture by history and art that's sure to last
