His legacy in newfound wisdom
I remembered today,
about your fingers and toes
and how my own
are so very similar
how my laugh is too loud
and spirited by half
of what made you, you
a spark of inherited harsh
copied of a much too harsh
unintentional in it's abruptness
this, my momentary unforgiving
in split seconds, yet enough to scar
lately, stopped in thought
I've learned to realize
sooner, rather than later
to catch that proclivity
hug it long and hard
and kiss it's cheek in a sort of tribute
sending it off to your place
a place from whence it originally came
letting it all go, (all the yuck)
into the ether of mixed memories
of creation itself
left only with your love
so warmed inside me
helping to enlighten a new path
finding my own way
lesser harsh but tempered in strength
Unknown lessons of and from you.
feeling your pride permeate
for I am certain
and missing you
like I always do
Yet it's tolerable
within the happiness
of these moments
with your legacy renewed

Such a beautiful piece, if I could hug you my dear friend I would.
My father taught me everything I know except how to cope without him
Loved the tearful read
Love and light

We all have aspects of our parents whether we like it or not. Somehow, I find that comforting. Awesome write.

Dear BV,
Thanks ever so for the messy cry this morning! You know I don’t wear waterproof mascara! Damn it. What a mess.
This poem is so delicately exquisite in love and appreciation and admiration I’m in complete awe. This was a beautiful poem allowing one and all to reflect on what a parents legacy leaves behind. Really gorgeous piece. H🌷
PS beautiful pic!

Awwww (hugs) my friend!!!
Your generous heart is so sweet and beautiful, H...
I was missing the hell out of my dad and decided to make something... to create instead of wallowing... I hate that our best picture is so old.. I am much more wrinkly and older... lol This pic sits in a really pretty frame on my entertainment center (even though I'm not married anymore) because I cannot pack it away.... He and I were joking back and forth and then out of nowhere he sprang this serious kiss... I remember it like yesterday.... But more so, I'm trying to be my own legacy, and attempting to correct the ire and harshness that I inherited from him, that he struggled so much with....He knew that too, he knew just how very similar I am and he would be proud of me trying to change /correct and improve.... I hope so, anyway.
I thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and the generous list add, sorry for the raccoon eyes... lol 😂 😂...
Much love, my dear 🙏🏻

He's been gone for awhile, so I am OK... I just miss him some days like it happened yesterday and my anger flares at how I feel completely cheated to have lost him far far too soon....
I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness
It's MUCH appreciated.

Yes...
My dad passed Jan 2 2014. I was incarcerated, and although I had the money to attend his funeral, they deemed me a "security risk", based on my institutional behavior... I have been thinking of doing a write or spoken word about this (which I wanted to set up by first stating that I was, in fact, incarcerated... this shit carries a huge stigma, I have found). but yes... I think sharing these things is very helpful for people... I wanted to do it, both for myself and for others... but the incarcerated aspect is very important... to the account, you know? like... he came to visit me even while wasting away... I remember the last time I shook his hand and how his formerly strong, calloused hand felt like a loose rubber glove, with the weight loss and how my mom took care of him and one day he fell down and my mom couldn't lift him and the feeling of helplessness... and how he used to salute me when, every time he left the visiting room... and how it was to finally encounter his grave... these things... you know?
I just thought... I don't know... maybe you would appreciate these things?
or that we could be strong together, because I don't think this sort of thing ever really goes away... it is like how I compare the loss of love to the loss of God...
anyway... I am thinking of doing something about that very impactful thing in my life....
peace be with you always in all ways... and may you always turn the times of turbulence into beautiful things.

Re: Re. His legacy in newfound wisdom
I love this, Cipher!
and I definitely do appreciate you sharing, absolutely. Sorry for the delay, I've been under the weather and just now starting to feel better.. ;)
Here's my little two cents.... if you're rolling it around your mind (writing about your incarceration and your father) and pondering then maybe rough draft something, let it spill and see what pours out... It's probably something that needs to see the page... THEN you can decide if there's any need to publish or just keep it for yourself until you are certain you are ready to share.... Either way., you'll have had some sort of catharsis.... and creative release..... once again, just my thoughts.....
I hope that's something that is of benefit to read...
You're kindness to me, is truly humbling and appreciative, my friend 🙏🏻
