Mini earthquake experiences
My first trivial tremor experience had been in Southern Africa
And now this puny earthquake I felt in Tanzania.
I saw every thing waltz to and fro and lightly shake
Bottles turned ballerinas dancing slightly to the quake
I watched glass decors on the walls quiver and jolt
Scaredy me was half asleep, no wonder didn't bolt
I thought I was dreaming or imagining things
My bed and chairs converted into gentle swings.
All vials and vases
jiggled to dance a jig
The lil horrors over
So I cast humor's wig💃🏽
Ah when began rattling, the knick knacks on my dresser
Was when it dawned upon me in horror
That this was really an early dawn tremor.
I phoned some friends but those early risers
Hadn't even noticed or felt those tremors
I bet they thought I was spreading false rumours
After all poets are stereotyped as fanciful philosophers.
My cell phone keypad became my panic button in a flurry
Of course I wanted all to be alerted, alarmed in worry
Nobody believed me until it was announced in our mosque
And every body was then called by muezzin to pray the signs prayers
Then every body knew the tremor was no hoax
Some patted me for being the first to notice this shaking of earthly layers
Of course I thanked God this was no major earthquake
I've heard in other places how terribly the earth can crack and shake
Who else but God could I owe my heartfelt gratitude
For this being my 2nd low power tremor in magnitude
As it measured low on the Richter scale
based on the seismic waves' amplitude
But the earth was shaken and I too was shaken
No pics of the shivering axis were taken
Todate runs down my spine such a shiver
On recalling how the mother earth did quiver
I have seen videos of earthquakes where the earth juggles things
like a salt shaker
May God protect us from such a waker and breaker

I have always wondered what it would be like to be in an earthquake. I suppose the good thing about living in the United Kingdom is that we are a very low risk of experiencing anything like that. Though I did see a tornado once...

Re: Re. Mini earthquake experiences
Hi dear nice to know, but UK does get earthquakes that are felt by people but like here in Tanzania they are a rare and minor event. Maybe your area is of those in the uk that didn't get any.
Tornadoes are also very scary , I thought they are a US thing only.
Warm thanks for your comment,

Yeah where I have lived we have similarly only experienced little tremors that some busy people don't even notice, no harms ever done. I hope you could enjoy the poem though for it's entertaining bits. Thanks much for comment,

Kudos! That’s a great way to memorialize a very personal experience. Funny that nobody else had noticed!

Yeah two earthquakes decades apart both of them very light and so many people didn't feel them at all. The latest was a bit more noticeable but still no damage to property or life as was minor still. Warmest thanks for the feedback,

"jiggled to dance a jig" ... like this line ... I experienced an earthquake when I lived in Maryland ... it wasn't very big ... but it knocked pictures off of the wall ...

Oh my , must have been a bit more frightening I guess, but thank God they are rare events in many places like here and yours, and minor too. Nice to know which line you enjoyed, warm thanks for comment!

I've never read anything about the experience of an earthquake before, so this was very original to me, with terrific detail to the storytelling. Thank you for sharing with us.

For 37 years Southern California was my home. My brother graduated from college the year Mt. Saint Helens blew in Oregon. Reading this brought back the adventures of natural disasters.

Not traumatic memories but a reminder of helping to remove bodies of trapped persons from the rubble. SF earthquake back in the 90s'. Keep enjoying this day; it's a choice. Hugs and peace, Oral

You are very welcome! Hurricanes and tornadoes often cause destruction and sometimes death but not always. A lot depends on the sturdiness of the structure you live in and whether you live in land or bear the water. I have been very fortunate to have experienced little damage in the sixty years that I have lived in Florida. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem with us.

Hi, thanks very much for your fine comment, yeah nice you didn't feel them.
One we hear happened recently in london 2020 which must've been bigger than our earthquakes considering that walls were cracked, but all were still minor thankfully.
Yeah its a strange phenomenon indeed. Best wishes,

We just had our first ( what I would say substantial ) earth quake in NC a few months back. It was about 6.5 on the scale, I believe. It's a very powerful feeling when your entire Universe is shaken, and a reminder of just how powerfully in control Mother Nature truly is. Glad to know you survived!

Re: Re. Mini earthquake experiences
Where is NC dear, oh you had one recently, sounds big so nice it seems you didnt suffer damage and survived it.
Yeah we believe mother nature is in God's control and that's very comforting.
Warm thanks,

i've lived within earthquakes for many years being a California resident.
i recall a time living on the 4th floor of an apartment and the whole place was swaying and shaking and the 2 roommates ran under a kitchen door frame and me lazily stretched out on the couch didn't move even a little bit.
i told them this is a baby-quake - lol
They were both visible shaken -- one grew up in Iowa the other in Massachusetts.
i know if out and about to stay far away from big glass windows.
Loved Your feel and observations in this spill

Woah cool you are like me then, when everyone is panicking i stay calm, limd the last earthquake when many ran outside while i just walked about at home suspensefully, baby quake yeahh that's the term, though we never know for sure it won't turn into adult major.
But i do panic when no one else is.
Thanks soo much for your interesting comment, made me smile. Cheers!

Re: Re. Mini earthquake experiences
Remember when the Bay Bridge in the San Francisco, CA, Bay Area collapsed?
i used to travel that double-decker bridge daily to work and back when i lived in Hayward, CA.
Lucky for me, i had moved back to San Diego, CA, about 6 months before that quake and bridge collapse. Had i not, i'm pretty certain i wouldn't have had time to panic as the bridge would have crushed me or sent me into the freezing cold water of the bay.

Heyy hmm yeahhh it was a rock a bye baby event, only no one fell. Its an earthly phenomenon that God has control over, He lets other earthquakes shift people to the afterlife then its a rock a bye to this earth. Thanks for your comment, lol.

Sometimes I wonder what might topple over in my home if there was ever an earthquake, I try to be on the safe side with nick nacks, a plexiglass front on shelving could be a lifesaver in such an event as you experienced, but if the house cracks that another story, stay safe, great writing topic to ponder on :)
