Sea of glass

I had a dream...
On a crisp winter's day
Feeling that nostalgic glow
I put on my boots
For a trek through the snow

The stillness was a nice escape
Nothing but crunching ice
Beneath my slogging feet

Then passing the forest
Stretched out before my eyes
Farther than I could see
Was a sea of eternal glass

Curiosity overtook my mind
I had to venture but just a ways
And slowly slide my slipping legs
Onto the frozen waves

Skating across infinity
I lost myself in time
Twirling in a dizzy haze
That was no one's but mine

A strange feeling
I cannot explain
To be wrapped in wonder
In a world all your own

A childlike peaceful sleep
You wish would never end
Wrapped in dreams
Of tranquility, forever

It was then I knew
The meaning of it all
To live life as a child

No prejudices
No judgements
No disillusionment

Everything the world had taught me
Had stripped me of innocence

Although I can't go back...

I can dream
