(k)nights of honour

When the night sounds roar
That pulse of blood rushing in your ears
A thrushing hum, yeah you know the one
It's loudest, when pressure is strenuous
Like when the loneliness crushes and presses down
upon
you

Then the night speaks
That long aching moan bubbles up from a dark unknown
The words are there, just out of reach
It's a lonely night-time dedicated speech
Whose word's thrash and whip
soft
tender
skin

Only to begin again as the night settles in
consuming words flirt in the dark
tease with no signs of any reprieve
awash in the shroud, those fucking words screaming so damn loud.
A usual safe haven now hurtful and brazen
anointing
a gentle
soul

At last, just before the dawn rises,
There's still a few more relegated surprises
To twist and dig,
burrowing deep down
scarring
a fragile
heart

A forever reminder—
of all my self proclaimed
night-time badges of honour
