We are not tethered
by tragic losses and defeat
our struggles do not confine
suffering and pain
assuredly, do not define –
Shared compassion
and integrity align
our kindred spirit;
unbound by place or time
always we shall rise
together your hand in mine –
Illumine your soul
my Anam Cara;

The Anam Cara was a person to whom you could reveal the hidden intimacies of your life. This friendship was an act of recognition and belonging. When you had an Anam Cara, your friendship cut across all convention and category. You were joined in an ancient and eternal way with the friend of your soul.

Thank you for this competition entry. It's such a strong one, elegant and absolutely beautiful. I learnt something too! I've got lots of friends, but found my Anam Cara at work a few years ago. Our minds just connected in a way that I've never known before. When you find one, you just know!
